Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version for Windows 8

New Realtek HD audio 2.78 driver version release. See first for more details. :)

Something went wrong during installation on my machine, it installed 2 "Speakers" and didn't work right. Had to actually do system restore to get things back in order. Didn't try in W10 yet.

Always un-install the existing Realtek audio driver first and reboot after removing driver. Then try to install the new driver using the setup.exe file that came with the new Realtek driver package and reboot again for the new audio driver to take effect.

I'll wait a day to get the Realtek R2.78 audio package from the Realtek web site, Majorgeeks or Softpedia drivers page.
The Realtek audio hardware that I'm using on few desktop PCs & few laptops are working fine with the R2.77 release.

Of course I did it that way and got it straight from Realtek. Anyway, am I mistaken or it's first time there's a mention of W 10 in the name of the driver ? 0004-64bit_Win7_Win8_Win81_Win10_R277.exe
Hmmmm, oops, something is wrong here, I downloaded it from "Global" site and it's wrong number. From Site2 (hk1) it's 64bit_Win7_Win8_Win81_Win10_R278.exe

but normal install with realtek software removes old driver as part of install in all the updates I have installed. trying to install it now but blue line just is not moving after10 mins. think I will revert back to older version.

I've got wrong file from Realtek when I downloaded from Global mirror, the other mirror gave me right one, installed it normally and it works just fine but Cortana still won't speak to me.

cant get it to work just wont install giving up now windows has enough settings for now ho hum.
If you're not having any problems with the driver you have now, there is no reason to update. The fixes are for specific problems or for newer games. Also (this is for anyone who cares) if you run your sound through HDMI like me, it doesn't matter, the sound goes through the video card/integrated graphics.;)

Microsoft released Realtek HD Audio driver version 6.0.1.7514 (5/19/2015) on MS Update Catalog.
(32bit download) (64bit download)
WHQL for Windows from Vista to Win10. Must use Device Manager to select the proper INF file to install driver. Extract all the files from the CAB file before using Device Manager.

After installing and rebooting it always asks me if I want to run the same 2-3 files when launching Windows. Since I wasnt experiencing any audio issues, I'm going to roll back to previous version.
