Latest Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 8

Never a truer word spoken Shawn.

I ran the Windows Update offering and it failed (and I'll be honest, I was surprised at that) although I have recent memories of that Realtek Audio driver update from a couple of months back that was a problem too.

Next stop then (as this had now become playtime) was to Intel to see what their driver update tool recommended. Three updates were suggested although none were for the video driver. So on the basis of 'lets just see what happens' I proceeded. Result was that two of the three failed.

At this point I played my 'get out of jail card' (Acronis). So all mended now.

The Intel Update Tool has never worked right for me. Offers stuff that won't install and misses other things that have updates available. :(

I don't trust graphics drivers that Windows Update offers either.

That's useful to know about the Intel tool popeye. And I guess the 'if it aint broke don't try and fix it' rule applies here.

New driver failed to install in Windows update. However, it succeeded as a stand alone install. Not on PC now but it is a newer driver, may 2k15.
I know the last two digits are higher. Didn't test it extensively but seems good.

already had that May driver in my device manager when Windows pulled up that update anyway, went and tried to install too, cause it didn't say a damned thing about version, so anyway yup I also got the error, and as the other guy, did it a couple more times just to make sure, so also ran the stand alone, and yeah it did say successful, but when I checked device manager the same dated driver was still there, so just went and hide the update for now. btw also got those other 2 updates when I did a intel update tool check too, both failed also to install using the install from the tool, ran them stand alone also, and again one said successful, the other the Bluetooth thing only gave me a repair or fix option, ran the repair, and it completed, but again the driver that was already installed was still the same, so who knows.

Thanks for the feedback, in my case I had a 2014 driver. I don't bother much with Intel 3000 as it performs ok

A further heads up on the Intel Driver being offered through Windows Update. Not only does the install fail ...with an error code that does not show up on Google...but the next time you restart your computer, you may get the BSOD. That's happened to me twice. The computer is unable to repair the damage and I have had to factory reset twice. On my third reset now....currently upgrading from 8 to 8.1 via the Store. I won't let this particular Intel update install this time around, and will report back to let you know if avoiding this install results in the avoidance of the Blue Screen of Death.

Yep, should have done that...but wanted to make sure I had gotten rid of any corruptions just incase there were some. Suppose I wanted to be shiny and new all over again. But you're right, should have done that by the 2nd or third time. Appreciate the recommendation.

Right now, the initial upgrade from 8 to 8.1 via Windows Store went well. (My Laptop came stock with Windows 8 before 8.1 was available). After this initial upgrade, I Shut Down the computer and manually started it back up w/o issue. Just went to Windows Update and there are 98 Important and 22 Optional Updates available. I'm going to sift through them and install carefully. Last time, I was able to install all of them. It was the second round of updates after this that caused the issue...and that is where the Intel update was.

Will let you know...

First round of updates actually shows the following under important updates:

Intel Corporation Driver Update for Intel(R) HD Graphics 61.7mb

Published: 6/24/2015

There is no support Information for it, no Version #, and the right side pane does not say "recommended"... so I'm assuming they feel it is pretty much mandatory?

Screw that. My graphics are fine. I'm not installing it.

You made a wise choice my friend

Thank you. :p

I've re-installed every single update...including optional updates... except one. The one update I didn't install is:

Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics

Download size: 61.7 MB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Optional

This driver was provided by Intel Corporation for support of Intel(R) HD Graphics

I've hidden the update (wish I could make it disappear all together, but alas...)

My computer is working fine, and I've been able to power it off & on without issue since re-installing everything. No more BSOD Loop. I think I'll just stick with Intel HD Graphics Diver Version # 9.17.10.2828. It's old, but everything works fine for me. I'm not a gamer...I just stream HD videos and they look fine.

The point of relaying my story? Be wary of this update. I use a C855 Toshiba Laptop that came pre-installed with Windows 8.0. If anyone uses a similar computer, stay away from this update. Hide it.

Also, Be sure to set your Windows Update Settings to "Check for Updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". You'll just have to remember to check Updates at least once a week or so.

P.S. - My listing above shows it as "Optional" in that description, but Windows Update lists it with the Important Updates and tries to automatically install it. That's what repeatedly "Broke" my computer.

I hope this Graphics Driver isn't needed for Windows 10. If so...I'll be on 8.1 for a long time. :(

This driver has once again appeared on WIndows Update, now showing as 61.8mb (rather than 61.7mb as previously) and now classed as important.

I shall not be installing it based on my recent experiences with driver updates from MS.

this current update actually installs ok, showing 9.17.10.4229

Once bitten, twice shy comes to mind over this. I'm running 9.17.10.3517

So is this yet another update over the one you installed a couple of weeks ago ?

Well, that has installed OK... thanks :) So MS seem to have realised there was an issue and released a modified version. One setting I find does need altering (based on past experience) are the power saving features. When running on battery I used to find it would all inexplicably crash with a display that was so corrupt you had a job to find the shutdown or close icons.

I find these needed unticking on previous versions and so I'm assuming the same needs doing here.
