Latest CCleaner Version Released

Hi guys,

Anyone..just tell me what all options can be safely done by Ccleaner without worrying about anything. Had heard many have registry problems later on after running it.

Default is just fine,you might want to change under options-settings-wipe free space,so that cleaning,will not take more than a couple of seconds.
Registry?Never an issue,but do take a look before,just in case.

Version 4.18 of CCleaner had Active System Monitoring added and it is automatically activated. I didn't like it taking extra system resources on my system. You can disable the Active System Monitoring, but just be aware of it. Here's a link to a discussion about it on Piriform forums (the mfg of CCleaner).

Also, be careful with CCEnhancer. I added it to CCleaner 4.17 and checked some boxes to do extra cleaning and it damaged my Malwarebytes Pro install. I had to reinstall Malwarebytes Pro as it would no longer run or download and update its database. So just also be aware of this possibility. I uninstalled CCEnhancer, but I still use CCleaner 4.17 (without the Active System Monitoring feature).

CCleaner has prompted me to update 3 times in the last few days.

I had a look on the Piriform site and there is a lot of discussion about the new active monitoring, which isn't particularly bothering me so far.

Through someone's signature I found there is a version called CCleaner-Slim. Does anyone use this, or know how it is different to the standard version?

This "Slim" version of CCleaner is identical to the standard version but does not offer to install a toolbar. It is usually updated a week or so after the standard version is updated.

Not recommended for SSD, CCleaner will warn you about this.

O.k. did not clearly state in that post to say to uncheck it, but mine is and always was by default unchecked. Now i tried to just to see to check it and i get this message.

Drive C: is a solid-state drive (SSD) which can wear out prematurely when securely wiped.

Makes sense to me, this constant action will not be good for a SSD.

O.K. we agree on keeping that box unchecked,at least for SSD's,although HDD's wont really benefit of that particular feature.
I usually "wipe MFT" twice a year,and gain up to some amount of MB's of space.

MFT means Master File Table which contains index of files on NTFs drives. As computer overwrite and delete files, MFT will be filled with free space which will contains index of pointers to deleted files.

As you see mine is greyed out so i can not even choose it. Weird that you say when updated Wipe Free Space, yours checks this by default. Assume twice a year ain't harmful. Just how beneficial is it, how many MB do you gain back ?

Strangely,i dont have wipe MFT option in latest version,just wipe,anyway.
On a Tera drive,I get up to 70,maybe 80 MB back,takes more than 10 hours to complete,I think its worth it,every time followed by a defragment,keeps that three year old drive in top notch condition!
