Latest AMD Catalyst Graphics Driver for Windows 8

I'm an inch above beginner, so please indulge me. I know that CCC 13.1 is available and doing it the way Driver Cleaner Pro recommends is a nuisance, but is DCP right? Am I over-cautious for only trusting WHQL drivers? I flashed my motherboard BIOS to the latest WHQL revision, but I'm way too scared to flash an EPROM to a beta. What are your thoughts, suggestions? Thank you.

Custom built PC:
Windows 8 Pro 64 bit OS
Asus Crosshair IV Formula Megatrends BIOS version 2002 (everything above that is beta)
Chipset - I hope - is 890FX (Belarc Advisor won't list)
16GB OCZ Reaper DDR 3 1333 system RAM
Dual Radeon HD 7970 GPU's in Crossfire, CCC 12.1
Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Champion sound card
LG HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH10LS30 ATA Device [Optical drive] Blu-ray rewriter
PC Power & Cooling 950W PSU

Hello 7beauties,

I agree. I wouldn't recommend flashing beta EPROM.

Using a beta graphics driver is fine though. If you have any issues with it, you could always just rollback to the previous driver version, or uninstall the beta and reinstall the WHQL version.

AMD in the news got money problems, if they go bust in the next year or so no more driver updates. got caught out years ago when STB VELOCITY went bust.

AMD has often lost big money but would rebound for a while before getting into trouble again. There were even rumors floated that VIA would buy them out, but little David has kept a heart beat. Anand Lal Shimpi and editors at Maximum PC have consistently said it would be very bad if AMD folded because then Intel wouldn't have the pressure to "tick" or "tock," that smaller increments in technology would ensue with high price tags. At least AMD's GPU business has kept developing top notch products that are profitable. Let's all hope the pressure of AMD's competition will continue.

A chief complaint that some gamers in a forum have about Win 8 are problems with Catalyst drivers which I had experienced. Fortunately my latest update to CCC 13.1 went smoothly and problem free. I'm no expert, so anybody who knows better please poke in and correct me. In most cases a driver update overwrites the older driver, but graphic driver updates don't overwrite older versions which could result in conflicts. You're supposed to download and save the graphic driver update on the desktop, uninstall the outdated version, and then install the update. AMD has graphic driver updates meant for Windows 8.

hello: please bare w/me ~ i REALLY appreciate your time :D

i am new to computers after a 15 yr hiatus and so i am not well versed with all things pc

w/that said ... i am having a rather difficult problem. i just bought a Toshiba Satellite S875-S7376 notebook with an AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card, Windows 8 64bit, 8GB RAM, 1TB hard drive and intel Core i7

over the last year i have been learning to use Photoshop and other Creative Cloud Apps. i got the new laptop so that i could use the 3D tools, Filter and other bells & whistles (as my other laptop doesn't have a decent graphics card & i've had to use Ps in Basic Draw Mode).

however, as i gather there's a problems with the AMD graphics card and Windows 8. when i draw a shape the entire canvas fills with black, same with the Pen tool and other things and when i use the 3D tools Ps crashes.

in Device Manager the info about the Display Adapter is: Manufacturer/Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. | Location/PCI bus 1, device 0 function 0 | Driver Date/12-19-2012 | Version/9.12.0.0 |Digital Signer/Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher

okay, sorry ... finally here are my questions ... Is the Above Beta 3 what I am looking for? Is this particular release for my type of graphics card (Radeon HD 7670M)? I am unsure if I should download this because if it is not and it does something frightening to my computer i wouldn't know how to resolve it nor would i have the means to hire assistance. (sigh)

also, do you know if there are any other updates for anything else w/re: to Windows 8? i saw something about Chipset Drivers but i don't know what that is ... i will Google it after i'm done here but just thought i'd ask.

THANK YOU so very very much for taking the time to read my post. i cannot tell you how much i would appreciate your help.

i am thinking i may need to either return my laptop to where it once came or i may need to get rid of Win8 and go back to Win7 as i only have 2 weeks to make a decision about returning the Toshiba

be well and take care :D

Hi KaraR, and welcome to Eightforums.

Since you have a laptop I would NOT recommend to install videocard drivers directly from the videochipset manufacteror site. Which in this case would be AMD.

It is commonly know that laptop manufacteror's have their own way to integrate the videochipsets into their products. That means that the standard AMD videocard drivers will most likely not work for you. You therefore need to download the Toshiba rebranded videocard drivers.

So my advice to you is. Go to the Toshiba site and check if they have released new drivers for your specific type of laptop. Install all the updates, including new motherboard chipset drivers, if any available.

That way you may solve your problem.

Good luck with it!

I am thinking i may need to either return my laptop to where it once came or i may need to get rid of Win8 and go back to Win7 as i only have 2 weeks to make a decision about returning the Toshiba[/QUOTE said:
What was posted above is right, the drivers won't be downloadable direct from AMD. I have a HP with another one of these "great" re-branded cards, the 7690M XT, another "Radeon" that isn't supported by AMD. I just use the last working driver posted on HP driver site and gave up on anything new from AMD. I will never again buy anything with a re-branded Radeon, only Gforce now.

If you want my bottom line opinion, take the thing back where you got it and ask the sales guys if your not sure what I'm saying, and get yourself a laptop that has the GFORCE video card, that uses NVIDIA graphics drivers, those ARE directly downloadable when updated and will install with no problems. I know because I got my friend one of those when I got mine and it was a breeze to update his new laptop to the latest NVIDIA driver.

But that's just what I feel, and dealing with AMD and HP for months only to find there isn't anything that can be done but to use mine as is until I change.

AMD did a few months ago talk about some "enduro" driver name that was supposed to be downloadable and installable like the NVIDIA driver, but it didn't turn out like that.

So I'd take it back if you have that option and get a "GFORCE" :)
