Latest AMD Catalyst Graphics Driver for Windows 8

I created an AMD Switchable Graphics FAQ[...] to collect all of the relevant info around the issues - please read the first post there for new developments regarding AMD's driver support.

Also, I have tried Leshcat's (Unofficial) Catalyst 12.9 Sep4 UnifL PT v 0.5 and they work perfectly on Windows 8 RTM (Build 9200). When you download the driver, be sure to click the "Manual" button (after you click OK twice) to read and follow the instructions in the included CHM help file.

I got the same update but my card is a 6850 so no problem. It updated the driver to 8.892.10.8000 released 10/3/2012. I have not used the driver package from AMD but just the ones from windows update. The information from MS has not been posted yet so don't know to what cards the driver applies.

Hi, I have ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series.
Can i upgrade it so it supports the OpenGl extension 'GL_ARB_framebuffer_object'?

If the current AMD Catalyst 12.6 for Radeon HD 4000/3000/2000 or your manufacturer's driver doesn't support it (it should), you may need to revert to AMD Catalyst 11.12 (which apparently, does).

Please see this article for Radeon 4500 Series support (and driver) on Windows 8.

Whoops! That is the V3400...you need to check the AMD Support Hub or the AMD Graphics Drivers and Software page and select in Download Drivers:

1. Workstation Graphics
2. FireGL Series
3. FireGL V3400
4. (Your Operating System)

AFAIK, only up to Windows Vista or Windows 7 (AMD Catalyst 8.x) is supported for the V3400. Alternatively, you could try browsing this AMD search.

thanks alphastar - yes i have tried all those to no avail for the V3400

perhaps the card is just too old, think ill have to upgrade - what is the cheapest supported card? i think the windows 8 compatibility site is a good place to search for compatible cards?

its really annoying as the Firegl V3600 is listed as supported there

When I search the Windows Compatibility Center for FireGL, I don't see the V3400 listed. Have you tried Windows 8 to see what driver actually loads?

I don't know what the cheapest card is, but I do know that in terms of AMD, the Radeon HD 7700, 7800, and 7900 Series supports the latest (and upcoming) Enduro 5.5 driver features in AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta.

thanks, but i need someone to explain me what to do, the ideal for me (im not like a genius with the computers) is someone tell me step by step what to do, to make windows 8 works in my note (HP dv6tqe 8gb, ati radeon hd 7690m xt and intel graph)

thanks alphastar, yes i have installed windows 8 and it said within the campatability wizard that the V3400 was supported - yes it works in a kind of vga mode but cant install catalyst nor increase the resolution.

NOW i have managed to make an old ATI X300 work fine, but my preferred ATI V3400 which is much newer still cannot get a driver!

From all reports, you can use the Vista driver (DirectX 9.0) on Windows 8, however it will only support WDDM 1.0 features in a limited fashion - see the Win8 System Requirements and this confirmation from the MSDN website.

That being the case, this driver should work - AMD FireGL/Pro/MV Software Suite for Windows Vista 64-bit Edition

Alternatively, you might try messing with the Windows 8 x64 FirePro Unified Driver, however, it does not support ATI FireGL V3400 (see Readme).

Hello everybody!
I have ATI Radeon HD5000. I upgraded to Win8, system updated ATI driver, but the quality of the PICTURES (only pictures) is a bit ugly. I tried to uninstall driver, and in that case the picture is great. But windows keeps updating the driver...I turned automatic driver update off, but the same thing happens.
Anybody has some idea?
