Laptop slow, clean install, yes or no?

I'm running Windows 8.1 (64 bit) on my Lenovo G500 laptop. It has AMD RadeonHD 8570 (2GB) graphics card, Intel integrated HD graphics, i5 processor, 500 GB SATA Hard disk and 8GB DDR3 RAM.






I'm having slowdown issues, slow startup, slow shutdown issues in this laptop.


I have scanned it throughly once with Kaspersky and second time with Avira to find any malware but found nothing.




I have also disabled some non Microsoft services during startup ( I didn’t fiddle with my graphics card Driver startup at all) so that I don't face issues of slowdowns. But the trouble wasn't fixed at all.




I ran sfc/scannow command using admin privileges in command prompt and found nothing, I also ran it in safe mode just to double check and found no errors.






I didn’t install any new software before I started facing this issue of slowdowns.




I have 500 GB SATA hard drive with 2 partitions.




C drive is of 180 GB and D drive was allocated the remaining space that Windows allowed me in the beginning.




C drive has 64 GB vcant space and D drive has 40 GB vacant space. All my drivers are upto date. My Windows is also updated.




Therefore, out of sheer frustration I've decided to perform a clean install of Windows 8.1.






To get a second opinion, I've posted here.




Shall I go ahead with my clean install or is there something I can do?




I won't update to Windows 10 as my laptop doesn't have support for it.

I wouldn't overlook the possibility of hardware issue. Run disk and memory diagnostics and make sure you don't have a over-heating problem. With SFC coming up clean I think the Windows OS is likely OK so I would take a little time to look elsewhere before a clean install because you can always do that.

There are several built-in diagnostic tools in W-8.1, look under Control Panel/Administrative tools. I would start there first.

There are several built-in diagnostic tools in W-8.1, look under Control Panel/Administrative tools. I would start there first.
I found no errors when I checked my drives by going to properties>tools>error checking.


I also found no errors when I ran memory diagnostic tools than run upon restarting. What should I do now?

Moreover, I daily run Ccleaner application to cleanup my temporary files.

The first thing I would do is try not using CCleaner every day for a few days at least to see if there is any change in behavior. I am not saying CCleaner is bad because I have used it on occasion for a very specific task but I would never use it every day. As for Temp Files, windows has a built-in tool (Disk Clean-up) to delete Temp files and more that I find more than adequate. I know that aggressive deletion of all Temp Files can hinder the performance of some add-on programs. Also, make sure your disk is not too fragmented. How much RAM is in use on a regular basis?

Hi,

I have a Lenovo Z710 and I was having serious slow issues last 3 weeks , OS was taking over 5 Minutes to full load. Now it is fixed, it takes 19 Seconds to load.
There is no Hardware failure, it has to do with Software/Drivers.

I do not know the source of the problem, I have been uninstall/reinstall Drivers, testing HDD and Memory, SFC , DISM, Clean Boot, Disabling all Start-up things, Disabling Services, Disabling Superfetch, Running Malawarebytes, Running CHKDSK /F /R and nothing helped.

Please notice that I do not know the source of the problem , what I am telling are only suggestions that helped me.
First of all , do a System Image Backup (Control Panel>File History>System Image Backup [you see it left , at bottom of screen]) for the case you need to restore system.
Second, Disable the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" in Services (run > services.msc). Also Disable the Auto Start-up of this Service (Task Manager>Startup>Delayed Launcher - Intel Corporation)
If that did not help, see if you have installed a file called something like "Windows Driver Package - Lenovo (WUDF???)...". It is a part of Lenovo Energy Manager. In Event Viewer I have many errors related, so I uninstalled that file ONLY and I see no problems.
If that did not help, then try to uninstall all Windows updates back to 06-01-2015. It takes some time.
I suspect that Bluetooth Drivers may be involved, you may want to uninstall them and see if it helps.
That is all what I can suggest you.

If you have knowledge about technical areas, it is easy to correct the errors and restore back the speed and performance of your computer. I suggest that clean your laptop and to stay away from virus you need to have best antivirus tech support.

I was having my Laptop for 15 days almost Blocked, preventing me to Work, exactly at a Time where I needed urgently to work.
But in my case there was no Virus at all, there was something else.
Anyway Windows Defender is quite good, there is no need to have another AV.
It looked as a Virus / HDD Failure / memory Failure /CPU Failure, I even bought a new memory stick for to test.

Use this step and make a faster your laptop
1- Closes all Unused Running Program
2- Closes all Unused Running Web Browser Tab
3- Uninstall all Unused Aplication
4- You Have Face Many Problem then restart your Computer

I would get the HD diagnostic from the HD manufacturer's web page if they offer one. If the HD benchmarks are about what they always were, then that is not it. But if they show much less throughput for no apparent reason the OS may be ordering many retries to get or write the data.

I would make sure the HD is AOK before doing anything else. Once you eliminate hardware as the problem then you should consider stuff like clean installs etc..
