Solved KB2962409 appears today but already installed 6 month ago

Thanks for the updates John, I'm still reading all that has been going on.

I too had a confused Defender update today with version 3002 (that was already installed on the 20th) being installed again today (22nd) followed by 3434 a few minutes later.

I have Windows update set to 'notify only' of new updates and as mentioned earlier, I always ignore Defender ones because they get installed automatically by a set task. This all leads on to another question of course... I had to set the task up in the first place because Defender (certainly 12 months ago) wouldn't update automatically if Windows Update was set to manual. So there is still some confusion over this for me. Perhaps something has changed with Defender or Windows Update such that the task is no longer needed.

I'll see what happens tomorrow.

I had the Defender update issue too. I waited it out and it is resolved on its own.

I get a kick out of how people at Microsoft Answers started doing this or that to their systems when this was clearly was an issue on MS's end. Also love the "guru" who asks 20 ridiculous questions about your system.

I learned long ago not to mess with my system when 99% of the time the issue is not mine.

Absolutely agree. I can't just recall any problem yet that was caused by a problem or corrupt files or whatever at my end.

And still the fun continues. Todays Windows Update check has brought up two defender updates. One published yesterday (a tiny 74kb one) and one published today (the 21mb one).

Edit... both were installed automatically via my 8am Defender update task.

Agree about this guy, bru. I have had a couple of unpleasant discussions with him. Will say I got help once from him - and Susan Bradley, mainly Susan, I think. Seems to go overboard with the questions each time - lol!
