Here is my problem:
I have an Acer Aspire x64 running Windows 8.1. It has been a fantastic machine for
the last three years, with absolutely no problems whatsoever. None (I used to be an
XP fan, and was always reinstalling, which was fine because the process was
reliable)
Two weeks ago this machine failed - not sure why - I think it may have been a
massive World of Warcraft update, but I can't be certain. Memory leaks, continuous
hangs, blue wheel of death, Task Manager failure, Start/Shutdown/Restart failure
etc. It was broken.
For the last fortnight I have done three Refresh/Installs and two completely
reformatted factory reset installs, and I am frustrated beyond belief that I cannot
get the machine working reliably. The irony of searching help/updates on an Android
phone is not lost on me ...
Windows update, and associated sites, is fundamentally broken. My main problem is
KB2919355 ... this is the root cause of everything. Most pertinently it seems to
disallow System Restore points - I create them, I see them, and then when I need
them they are not there. I had the "could not create scheduled task/error
0x80071A91" message many times, and that set me off all over the place.
KB2919355 will not install, it fails to install or it does install and then the system
hangs/crashes again. I have run Windows Update Troubleshooter many times (which
wipes update memory so you have to start all over again) I have located the
KB2919355 page on Microsoft website ... this is a fresh install of Windows here ... I
haven't uninstalled any bloatware, I haven't Power Shell/remove Metro Apps ... I
just want to do the updates first on a virgin install of Win 8.1.
IE11 ... freshly installed - doesn't allow pop ups, so won't download the patches ...
from MS own site. Tools/Internet Options doesn't work in IE 11, so I can't allow pop
ups, the KB update for IE doesn't want to know. I can't uninstall IE, I cant uninstall
KB2919355 ... nothing works through DISM /online
I have spent two weeks looking at every fix on every forum, and each time the
machine gets more unreliable and Windows breaks even more. I note that
KB2919355 has been an issue for four years, and even MS suggest installing
components one at a time, in a specific order, yet their own software/browser will
not allow download their patches from their site. That is insane! Why are they so
bloody mindedly determined to absolutely completely and utterly break everything
they can?
Is there anywhere ... anywhere at all ... a "KB2919355 Problems? Click this to JUST
FIX IT" option anywhere? Please?
