Solved KB2575719 Appearing as Optional Update Sept 2

I've read the previous posts on the latest KB2975719, and am still unsure whether I should perform the update or not. It is showing as an optional update

Is is always better to uninstall the previous update KB2975719 before installing the latest version?

Or will the latest file just overwrite & replace the older file?

Hi, I have just installed it over the previous version and no problems so far - knock on wood!

Thanks for the feedback, it gives me confidence to update KB2975719 by downloading and installing without deleting the original update

Got the 'stuck taskbar' issue again after installing! :(

KB2979500 was the culprit! Not even gonna bother with KB2975719!

I left KB2975719 Sept 2 optional update in my system and did not install it or hide it. This morning I checked updates and it was gone. Have they pulled it again or is there a time limit to install optional updates?

Mine also disappeared. Pretty sure updates, optional or otherwise, don't just "disappear". They are pulled. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I never installed the August version of KB2975719 and now won't be installing this (since its gone).

KB2975719 is now back as part of Sept. Update Tuesday (or whatever it is now called). Listed as important. I have 12 total. Don't think I will be installing anything for a few days until the dust settles.

I installed all updates today and also Restored KB2975719 which was also listed as important here!
No updates pending, PC is up to date and all seems to be in good order! :)
The only thing I noticed was 'Folders' was restored in 'This PC'.

Yep - it's back as an "important" update and it still will not install on my pc. I get he loop of downloading, installing, then uninstalling each time I try. Error Code in Event Viewer is 0x800f0922. Since it's now important, I am more concerned about it. If anyone finds any solution, please post it. Thanks.

Is that you posting this issue on Windows Community? Otherwise there is someone else named John with the same issue. If it is you I'd be careful of who is trying to help you.

Run away fast would be my advice.

As for this update it keeps getting more bizarre. Today it was there for me along with all my other updates from yesterday. I started installing. Doing them in groups. Was left with two including KB2975719. Was double checking to make sure I didn't have any of the updates you need to uninstall prior (I didn't). Went back to install it and it is gone. Checked for updates and it showed up. Probably a different file size since it is a roll up. Pretty strange how this one is being handled.

Hope you get it resolved.

My Lenovo FLEX2-15M tried to install it twice(or more) times yesterday and finally told me "failure configuring" and said it was rejecting changes along with KB29662407. "Windows Secrets" warned about 4 ""fixes" for august and 2975719 was one of the four.

I have a plain vineallia system, NO overrides that I know of. I have open office, Xmarks, 1Password ,AVG, and sever O & O programs installed(Defrag, Cleverchach7, Auto Backup, Media Recovery, Safe Erase7, Disk Image & Laplink)

bru,you don't know how correct you were when you warned me. He got hostile when I decided not to go thru the convolated solution he posted. Here is his last reply:
"Suit yourself, but...
  • MS isn't going to fix this.
  • Installing KB2975719 will help you avoid the issues it fixes. Think of it as a "vaccine" of sorts.
  • The multi-step fix I worked up for you will help to avoid future security updates failing to install.
  • Why did you ask for help getting it installed - and waste my time - if you're not going to install it?"
Guess I really pissed him off. Anyway I should have taken your advice.

Microsoft Communities : PLEASE HELP Update KB2975719 - Microsoft Community (5th post down)

Note: on down the post Susan insinuates I'm blowing the update off:
"Not to mention, this is a normal update rollup. Issues with it installing point to potential system corruption issues.
Anytime an update doesn't install, one should not blow this off.".

I just looked at that thread before coming here. I don't even understand what IE would have to do with this.

IMO he has ruined that forum. I am not sure how he gets away with what he does but he is extremely rude and borderline abusive in his responses. I used to post there but he answers almost every thread and if someone else dare post he attacks.

I picture this nerd/geek sitting around in his underwear answering everything that is posted. Not a pretty picture for sure.

I still haven't installed KB2975719. I also find it strange that the other roll up is listed as optional. I hope you get it sorted.

bru - thought you might like to see the post on MS thread today:
"Yes, MS revised & then re-released KB2975719 but the revision had nothing to do with installation problems. In fact, a very, very small number of Win8.1 users worldwide had problems installing the first release of KB2975719.

Feel free to ignore the multi-step fix I posted.
