Do you think that Kaspersky is reliable enough? I am using it at my home PC but I am not sure if it works properly and will detect and stop a virus if some appears. Or maybe I have to choose another anti-virus program? May you please advise me?

It's generally rated as one of the top anti-virus programs out there and well recommended. There are others, but you won't go too far wrong with Kaspersky. I use it myself and have no major complaints.

Each antivirus software functions are similar, install one that you want . It will be fine so long as you keep it updated and run occasional scans.

Kaspersky anti-virus gets good test reports. The company is Russian with an HQ in Moscow. I see very little comment on Kaspersky's ownership.

I've had Kaspersky Internet Security since I've owned my current computer (2yrs in May). It's done a good job for me.

I've been using Kaspersky since 1996 when it was called AVP (Antiviral Toolkit Pro) and it's EXCELLENT! It's been very consistent over the years with excellent detection rates and excellent disinfection ability. Others I use and recommend are Bitdefender and Avira. In addition to anti-virus I would use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, a popup blocker such as Adblock Plus, and practice safe surfing. You could also add the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit to this mix. In closing I say you made a great choice with Kaspersky!

P.S. Please make sure and go into your setting and enable riskware detection in Kaspersky as it's not enabled by default. These instructions apply to all versions of it's AV. Here's the link on how to do this...

A while back, I read a scathing report on several AV programs including Kaspersky. In that report it stated that Kaspersky is controlled by the Russian Mafia, and so is very suspicious as being something we'd not want on our computers. I've never used the program, and after reading that report, I'm glad I didn't.

So maybe some research would be advisable, before trusting your PC to a program from a country that hates us. Eh?

I keep my own AV protection a bit closer to home! And, I never trust my computer's security to just one program, because there is NO one program that will protect it from every known form of Malware.

And, be very careful what you download to your PC. Even the most benign program can turn out to be a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Are you sure that the source of that article wasn't someone who'd benefit from such hyperbolic muck spreading? Got any credible evidence that such fears are justified?

Quite. Hope you follow your own advice, too, and not get your info through hysterical articles that have an interest to spread disinformation.

There is an argument that you're more at threat by a home grown security application being abused by its government to use against its own people than a foreign application. The Russian government, let's say, wouldn't really be interested in John Doe in the US but more interested in Boris from Moscow, while the US government would be more interested in John Doe. It's those closer to home that you need to be more watchful, particularly as familiarity will tend towards letting your guard down. It's those nearer to you who tend to have a greater interest in you.

And, I never trust my computer's security to just one program, because there is NO one program that will protect it from every known form of Malware.

Just to be clear, I don't fully trust Kasperksy myself, even if I do use them right now, but then I don't really fully trust any company, Western or not, whose primary interests, let's face it, are monetary. Still, I don't think Kaspersky is any worse than any of the Western companies out there, and until I see credible sources to disprove that, I'll stick to that belief.

Barclays Bank in the UK provide a 'free' license to use Kaspersky Internet Security when you bank with them. Their security team advised they have no security concerns about their customers using Kaspersky Internet Security. Do we trust the bank's advice and is there any firm evidence Kaspersky is any less reliable than other anti-virus firms?
