Well I just ran SFC/DISM twice-rebooted -then ran it again- the bug is still there. No big deal really, and when I upgrade to Windows 10, it'll be gone.

All installed OK today, but as so often happens my free space took a dive and is now 0.9gb down following these.
New restore point? 545MB here on one of the 8.1 laptops.

All well with the updates, and no w10 spam this time ! :O)

No, no restore points. I have those turned off as I back up via other means. The free space issue is something I've noticed many times in 8.1 where even a single small update can make huge changes to the file structure (as reflected in the following incremental backup). Mostly that space comes back over days or a week or so.

This morning I've noticed a lot of HDD activity for 20 to 30 minutes which is not usual. Nothing obvious showing in task manager either.

I need to start a new thread for this. Still no updates showing, last check now 36 hours ago. I suspected a problem with WU after running a disk clean (system file clean) a few days ago because the exact same thing happened. I rolled back to a previous image and all was well again. I ran the clean up again two days ago and now have the same problem. WU is broken.

I was going to ask you something, but, then I read:
Today I changed the WU settings to 'never check for updates' and applied them. I then reset them back to 'notify only' and immediately WU launched into an update check and picked up the list of optionals that I believe appeared yesterday.
that is odd. My system is set to install automatically, but it never has, probably because I'm on a metered connection, even though I have it set to download on metered connection. But in the last few day's since Patch Tuesday it has started looking, downloading & installing on it's own after all this time, So I guess mine got fixed. :)I mean I click look for updates and get nothing, and look an install updates and they're already there(and this a couple minutes after boot and Mobile Broadband is on line).

I've no answer to that one Cliff. Sounds a bit strange, that is for sure.
All I can do now is wait until tomorrow and see what happens. It will either work, yea :) or it wont, lol, and then what ?
