java not working windows 8

I recently updated to Windows 8.1 and can not seem to get any of the aforementioned fixes to get Java to work. I have downloaded update 7 for both 32 and 64 bit, changed my security settings, etc. to no avail.

Are we just stuck until Oracle updates Java to allow it to be compatible with Windows 8.1?

Mine seems to be working now but it shows incompatible but works...lol

I just "upgraded" from windows 8 to 8.1.

I do much share trading with a program that is Java based. Windows 8.1 will not run my share trading program. The inability to trade has cost me a fortune. I have read al forums and tried everything I can to get my Java based program working. Using IE 11. Disabled many security measures etc to no avail.

This is the worst upgrade ever. Do not upgrade to 8.1 if you have critical work a hand. Help!! how do I fix this problem? Alternatively, is there an easy means of going back to windows 8?

unbelievable Microsoft could issue such a dud upgrade.

Go here.
You need both 32 & 64 bit java.
If you follow the instructions, you should have no problems.

U have already tried this several times. Still does not work.

Getting to the stage buying a new laptop - that does not run 8.1.

Yes. Tried several times. Wasted a day on this already. Not withstanding have latest ASUS zenbook, more efficient to by a new ultrabook that does not run than 8.1 rather than waste time on this mess.

I have Windows 8.1 Pro wmc.

I had no trouble installing or using JAVA across several different browsers.

IE11,Waterfox, & Opera.

You could take it to a computer shop & let them install JAVA for you.
It shouldn't take them long to do it, since it is so simple to do.

Solution. Had to add program to compatibility view settings. I have run the same trading program for a decade. Installed on 95, XP, Vista, & and 8. Sure there has been a few problems over the decade with correct Java installation and pop up blockers. This one is new. Clearly 8.1 is different - and that is a bad thing.

JAVA and Windows 8

Hi, I am having a similar issue with JAVA and Windows 8 running in desktop mode.
After downloading the recent JAVA update 51, I lost connectivity. According to my IT department at work (I work remotely) it was a fluke that I was able to connect with Windows 8 at all. I have tried Firefox, Chrome and IE.

Can I install a second OS on my laptop to connect to my work website with JAVA? I had issues with my school websites that their IT department had been able to help me correct, so it is not that JAVA is not installed, it's just that JAVA and Windows 8 apparently don't always play nicely together.

Any suggestions on fixing this issue?

Here's the solution:

1. Uninstall previous versions of Java.

2. Download the setup file from the home page. Offline or Online setup file does not matter. But if you want x64 version of Java, you need the Offline setup file.

3. Install Java.

4. Get Java verified as follows:

Open this page to get Java verified: Verify Java Version

- Chrome: Open that page to verify Java.
- FF or IE: First of all, run these browsers as Admin, and then open that page to get it verified.

If you open a page and got this message: Application blocked by security settings.

Just search for the shortcut "Configuration Java" in C:\ProgramData\....

Open it, click on Security tab, click on Edit Site List ..., add the page on which Java is blocked and click OK.

Now reload the page and you'll see a message asking if you wanna to run Java, just click Run.

There we go!

P/S: This works on Windows 8.1.

This looks like an ancient thread, but I will try anyway. Java is embedded in Windows 8. It shows up in Control Panel. It does not work on all websites. I cannot uninstall and reinstall. I cannot install from any website that tells me I need it. It does not work from my Start either, even though Java help says it will. It will not work with Google Chrome. I downloaded Firefox and got great amounts of malaware and a virus, so I don't want to try that again. (It took Dell Tech 2 hours to clean up my PC). Perhaps someone that sees this may have a solution that overcomes the above restraints.

Java Verify failure unable to Configure Java Control Panel does not open ( Fix : )
this is a regular ( windows 7 bug related ) problem after successful installation of Java ( jre ) and fresh installation of Windows7 64bit or 32bit on my laptop or desktop. what worked perfectly for me was setting COMPATIBILITYMODE=WINDOWSNT to make windows launch the JP2LAUNCHER.EXE and JAVAW.EXE files properly.
jp2launcher.exe windowsNT compatibilty solves Java Verify failure problem at https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
javaw.exe windowsNT compatibilty solves unable to open or Configure Java Control Panel problem.

* search for JAVAW.EXE inside c:\program files\java\....\bin
or c:\program files(x86)\java\.....\bin\
* right-click mouse on JAVAW application icon logo
* click PROPERTIES
* click COMPATIBILITY
* tick the checkbox at COMPATIBILITY MODE
* choose WINDOWS NT service pack
* click APPLY or click OK
Now, the Configure Java Control Panel will start opening and working.

* search for JP2LAUNCHER.EXE inside c:\program files\java\....\bin
or c:\program files(x86)\java\.....\bin\
* right-click mouse on JP2LAUNCHER
* click PROPERTIES
* click COMPATIBILITY
* tick the checkbox at COMPATIBILITY MODE
* choose WINDOWS NT service pack
* click APPLY or click OK
Now, the Verify Java will be successful at https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

if we find 2 or 3 versions of JP2LAUNCHER and JAVAW when we search, then we must repeat the above for all of them.

in the Configure Java Control Panel Advanced tab we can set "Do not check" certificate revocation and disable security verification. and in the Security tab we may Edit Site List... for the Exception Site List ( add URLs to unblock sites )
