iTunes upgrade error on Windows 8 64-bit

I've found that on my Windows 8 64-bit PC whenever I try to install a new version of iTunes it always gives me an error. The only way to upgrade to the latest version is to uninstall iTunes completely, reboot, then install the new version of iTunes. Has anyone else ran into this issue? Could it be because I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows? It's kind of annoying completely uninstalling iTunes just to upgrade to the new version but it's not a huge issue.

Hi there,

I run the Windows 8.1 x64 version myself. And I also use iTunes. Yesterday I did install the update of iTunes with no problems at all. So it is definitely not related to the version of Windows you are using.

How do you update iTunes? Did you install the "Apple Software Update" as well and are you updating through that program? Or did you download the new executable manually?

I know from personal experience that updating through the "Apple Software Update" works.

Besides, you can always try the SFC /Scannow command. That will search your computer for integrity problems and will fix then. Please see this tutorial for more information.
