Is my Asus GTX 660Ti video card starting to fail?

I have an ASUS GTX 660Ti and the last three NVidia driver updates have caused me to experience problems that made me rollback the driver. A few minutes ago my screen went white and then the monitor told me it lost the signal from the display port cable and turned off. I did a cold reboot and everything looks like it is working again.

Should I plan on getting a new video card soon or cold something else be causing these strange problems? This was an expensive card and I don't want to trash it yet.

I've had alot of issues my self last few years with graphic cards and motherboards from Asus, would recommend you switch to something else like MSI.

But then again, have you tried the Beta drivers from Asus? That does actually "sometimes" work ^^

It does not surprise me at all with nVidia drivers, only a small proportion even of non-Betas ever seem to be reasonable, so much so I note/save only the decent ones, so easy to return to a safe position.

I would try a replacement lead just in case it's something simple like a dubious wire in that, and check the sockets each end as well. Just one intermittent connection and you may get a lost signal error.

I have looked at the latest driver from ASUS and it is 327.23 released October 2013. I have always gotten the driver updates for my GeForce video cards directly from NVidia always without problems until now.

I have looked up the invoice for this card and it is just over 2 years old and cost less than 1/2 what I thought I paid for it. At least I will only feel half as bad if I have to trash it.

It is a coincidence that you should mention MSI, the MSI card I want just arrived at my favourite online store and it is in my shopping cart. All I need now is for this Asus card to bite the dust before I press the buy button! ;-)

The display port cable is firmly inserted in both ends and the card itself is also firmly inserted. I just thought of something, could the problem be caused because I am running the card in a PCI-e X8 slot and not in a X16 slot? The reason for that is because my motherboard my motherboard has two PCI-e X16 slots but if both of them are used, then both slots go to X8. I use a storage device in the second slot but I was told running the video card in X8 mode would not affect the video card performance. Maybe I was told BS? Hmmm.. these weird video card problems seem to have started when I bought that storage device.

I will move the storage device to an X4 slot and see if my videos problem go away. Unfortunately I do know that storage device will run slower in an X4 slot. Maybe it is time for a motherboard that can actually do X16 in two slots.

Just to report that was a waste of time. I moved the PCI-e storage card to an X4 slot and the video card is now running in an x16 slot. I installed the latest NVidia driver 344.65 and when the system turned off the display and then back on, the screen had horizontal white lines jerking back and forth from the top to bottom of the display. A restart brought things back to normal.

As a temporary solution I have set the display to never go to sleep. If this video card dies I can always use the onboard video. :-(

Constant driver updates over older updates, may cause mentioned issues. One way to cope with,is installing Driver Fusion, boot into safe mode, under family driver family tab, check any NVidia related boxes, delete, reboot, download latest stable drivers, should be 344.65 by now and issue should be solved.Less than 10 minutes job, tell us how it went...

Of course,no argument on that, only implying that 344.65 is stable and functional, using it and finished CoD Adwanced Warfare without a hickup.
OPoster should report back, following any the good options above.

I did use the Display Driver Uninstaller and got the same results. When the display comes back to life after being put to sleep, I get a fuzzy screen with white horizontal lines jerking back and forth. I did a screen capture but when you look at that picture, everything looks normal. Maybe I need to get out my camera to take a picture of this problem to prove that I am not imagining it.

I went back to 344.11 and everything works fine with that driver. I could put a spare drive into the case and do a quick clean install and see what happens but right now I have other things that I need to do.

Thanks for the suggestions,
AK
