Is it Possible to create a Windows 8 Disc?....

Thanks.
I did it from the Metro Start Screen Settings, somewhere between the options. Then it mentioned the refresh option and I chose it: it was using the HP recovery partition and I got all the programs from factory back which I didn't want.

I pressed F11 when computer turned on, and got the minimized system restore option. and it worked like a charm, no preloaded apps installed. i have a hp envy dv6-7250ca.... BUT now, the whole system is down after i tried to shrink the c partition and create another partition for my scratch disk. Now when I do a system restore of any types, it says failed when its almost finished. Ive tried the recovery disc, Ive tried f11, ive tried even a pirated version of windows 8. nothing nothing will install. But I managed to boot up into ubuntu disc right now on this laptop, that is how i am able to write this. So according to HP there is nothing that can be done, and they are sending me a fedex box to my door so i can ship this laptop off and they will fix it. This absolutely ridiculous. I remember whenever i had problems with any win7 or xp machines, just pop the disc in, restart, and reinstall c drive, while keep all data on d: parition. With UEFI makes so much difficult it seems.

Sorry to hear that.

Mine is dv6-7250eb... that must be almost the same as 7250ca. I'll try to be careful when reinstalling.

Right after I got on the desktop, there were still all the unneeded programs installed but I could shrink c drive from Computer Management without problems.

I had c: drive and d: was already assigned to recovery so I added f: as data and all worked.
This is also on UEFI and the good part is that you can make up to 128 partitions on the same disk (GPT disk).
In the past I also used a d: partition for data besides the c: which had the OS but now the new config works the same way.

Don't touch the first two small partitions beginning the disk (they don't have any letter assigned: sys reserved and uefi boot, about 200-300mb in size) otherwise you'll have problems booting and recovering.

As long as you don't disable it in the BIOS, UEFI works fine, I never had problems with it yet.

Thats where it all went wrong for me, is i removed those two small partitions with no letters assigned to it........... arggghhhi feel soo stupid for doing that. i wish there was a way to get them back or create them again with gparted or something and reinstall again from my recovery discs. without having to send the laptop back.

The two small partitions are made by default if you install from scratch in UEFI mode. (see first link below)

Even if you have an empty drive after a format, all needed partitions are made by the installer when you click next (no need to manually create them).

There might even be a way to restore them, but I didn't need to try this yet (luckily).
Doing a system image (on an external disk usually) before messing around will backup all selected partitions including c: and the first invisible two. You can then reboot and restore things back again when needed.

Control Panel -> Windows 7 File Recovery -> System Image
This is the one I still use, the same function we had back in Win7.

Why did you delete the partitions?

I deleted them after nothing else worked on either recovery discs, system recovery discs that got sent to me by hp, nor the f11. So I thought I'd give it a try. But I kept the recovery partition.

I just wanted to apologize, I haven't had any time to reply to this.
What I ended up doing, was wiping the recovery right of the hard drive, and just put a msdn version of windows 8 i downloaded. and it used my product key. and everything worked like a charm.
The recovery discs couldnt fix this, always giving me an error before. and HP wanted me to send it away. Thank you everyone for your time and help and effort. I really appreciate it all!

That's basically what I did on my ASUS laptop. Now you have a nice clean install and only need to install the programs you actually will use. I snagged all the latest drivers too. :)
