How to Add or Remove Internet Explorer Desktop Icon in Windows 8 and 8.1
InformationThis tutorial will show you how to add or remove the Internet Explorer (IE) desktop icon that has Open Home Page, Start Without Add-ons, Start InPrivate Browsing, and Properties (Internet Options) included in it's context menu for users in Windows 8 and 8.1.
EXAMPLE: Internet Explorer desktop icon
Here's How:
1. Do step 2, 3, or 4 below for what you would like to do.
2. To Enable Internet Explorer Desktop Icon
NoteYou must be signed in as an administrator to be able to do this step to enable users to be able to add the Internet Explorer desktop icon for their account with step 3 and 4.
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the .reg file below, and go to step 3 or 5 below.
Enable_Internet_Explorer_Desktop_Icon.reg
3. To Add Internet Explorer Desktop Icon for Only your User Account
A) If you have not already, you will need to do step 2 above first.
B) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the .reg file below, and go to step 5 below.
Add_Internet_Explorer_Desktop_Icon.reg
4. To Remove Internet Explorer Desktop Icon for Only your User Account
NOTE: This is the default setting.
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the .reg file below, and go to step 5 below.
Remove_Internet_Explorer_Desktop_Icon.reg
5. Save the .reg file to your desktop.
6. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.
7. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.
8. Refresh (F5) your desktop to apply step 3 or 4.
9. When finished, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.
