Internet Explorer 11 spotted as part of Windows Blue

Information on Windows Blue, the next major version of Windows, has started to leak out of Redmond recently. The first round of screenshots revealed a major NT kernel change, but Win8china has now published a screenshot from a recent Windows Blue milestone build that shows Internet Explorer 11 is being prepared for the update. Microsoft previously built Internet Explorer 10 into Windows 8, and it looks like the company is preparing to do the same with IE11 in Windows Blue.

Looks like they are jumping on the rapid upgrade cycle that others are using, with too many issues.

This is what happens when you try to combine a tablet and a desktop operating system into the same product. The tablet part is so immature that it can't wait three years for the traditional major update. This one is going to turn into a big cluster**** that is going to be both sad and amusing to watch.

Interesting...Considering Windows XP shipped with IE6, Vista with IE7, 7 with IE8, 8 with IE10, Blue with IE11?
And noticed that (almost) every major update to IE is being released with a new version of Windows, and MS is switching to per-year major upgrade of Windows, that means 2014=IE12?

Looks like I'll be 'doing an XP' with Win 7-Win 8 from now on.
I've already rejected Office 2013 in favour of staying with office 2010.

OK...so I'm confused, with all these so called leaks about "Blue". From everything I've read, "Blue" is supposed to be the SP1 to windows 8. I've seen a few articles saying that that "Blue" is as SP1 and the next version of windows? How can this be the next version of Windows when 8 was just released to the public not to long ago? The article from Znet says that if "Blue" is on schedule that it will be out in late October of this year. If that is the case, then "Blue" is in fact the service pack. Hence I don't put to much stock in what all these articles have to say.

OK...so I'm confused, with all these so called leaks about "Blue". From everything I've read, "Blue" is supposed to be the SP1 to windows 8. I've seen a few articles saying that that "Blue" is as SP1 and the next version of windows? How can this be the next version of Windows when 8 was just released to the public not to long ago? The article from Znet says that if "Blue" is on schedule that it will be out in late October of this year. If that is the case, then "Blue" is in fact the service pack. Hence I don't put to much stock in what all these articles have to say.

Let's wait and see how this develops. It looks like MS is moving to a yearly OS upgrade, instead of a totally new OS every 3-4 years. If the price is right it might work. Otherwise I think that a lot of people won't upgrade to the next version. In that case eventually MS will end up with a very fragmented OS usage.

Wonder how that will impact the security of the system. Instead of maintaining 4 versions at a time (XP; Vista; 7; 8) they will end up having to maintain lots of versions (perhaps more then 8 versions at a time??)

Sure, specially at the beginning, but it remains to be seen how long they're willing to support these hypothetical short-lived versions... and how committed they are to this new strategy. I reckon that the reception and feedback they get from their enterprise customers will also have a big role in how things finally play out. Too early to tell.

It's good that they are deciding to do this on a fast release at least for the internet explorer. They always took to long to update the browser and it was always behind so maybe now it will always be ahead or on the same pace as the other browsers. I wish they would at least finish Internet Explorer 10 for windows 7 first though. I mean it's been a while since the preview. They are taking quite a long time which only will put their browser lower in the market. Google, Mozilla and the others already have constant updates for windows 7 and I don't get why they even have a special windows 7 version. They need to speed it up. This browser might only be for windows blue or 8. So that's going to be horrible for the customers.

As to the support lifecycle questions (and I'll admit I have no insider knowledge), but if these are free (or close to it), they might put these on the Windows service pack lifecycle - 24 months after release, the previous version goes out of support. I'm still not sure this isn't going to be the equivalent of a service pack yet, so I'm curious if the support model changes for these updates too (and if the product branding stays "Windows 8").

I wouldn't be surprised... It already takes centuries to see IE10 coming to Win7.

Definitely: 6.3 is what I would call Windows 9.

A SP1 would be 6.2.9201 following what we saw until now.
