I gave Windows 8 a chance on my HP Envy 4t-1000 ultrabook back in the winter. It ran well, but had issues with the TouchPad. I went back to Windows 7 for the time being. Recently, I noticed driver updates for my laptop for Windows 8. I did a clean install, and everything is running great now, except I still had to use the .inf hack to get working USB 3.0 drivers on the Intel controller.

Those steps were found here: Windows 8 and Intel USB 3.0 Host Controllers | Plugable

I had to do this back in the winter, so I'm amazed that this situation hasn't been resolved at this point. Maybe it has, and I'm just not finding it. There's no USB 3.0 drivers from HP for Windows 8. Are there working drivers straight from Intel that don't require any editing? The issue is, with native Microsoft drivers, USB 3.0 devices fail to be detected. USB 2.0 devices work perfectly fine.

It still blows my mind that Intel hasn't issued a driver update that works properly, without using hacked .inf files. My drive is working fine now, at USB 3.0 speeds, but it still would be nice to not have to go through these steps on Intel-based systems.
