Installed this update and now people say its key logger??

Besides one, KB3022245 one in question from post # 17 as only one update for Diag tracking.

KB3048043 was delivered on the 29th of April and again on the 6th of may. KB3022245 was patch Tuesday and 6th of may. The had to patch their patches. I've always installed everything they give me and have never had any problems, I have pretty much run of the mill hardware, and the average software(nothing exotic or new on the market) so that's probably why I get off lucky.

Fair enough on your part, glad you are luckier then some. My part is had issues not long ago with something else so being more cautious lately till i know all is well. Diag Tracking is there, working and not giving me an issue, leave it for now and not that important of a service, just my opinion on it.TY for replies.

One piece of advice that might help, I see in your specs you are using Norton for an AV, you could temporarily turn off the real time protection when downloading , installing and rebooting the updates. I have to turn off my dark theme when installing updates other than Defender, because I could get a black screen and cursor upon reboot, specially if it's a IE update.

Sorry i am missing something again, what is your point about any updates ? Saying it may not check properly for updates or be able to download with real time protection on, may have missed some updates.

Had more issues with other A/V then Norton, one did not allow me to use system restore no matter what i disabled, so far Norton has always been fine. Point being does it have to do with this update in question as seems your saying there is more then one for Diag Tracking or you speaking of something more in general ?

If you are not now, just ignore what I said. Some people using Norton, Avira and a couple others were having problems installing some updates. But that diagtracking is nothing new I had that before I installed the updates in Windows 7 even. Gotcha ! No problem, thanks! Having no issues installing updates at all had 2014 Norton, now 2015. Other issue not sure what it was related to, was posted here for explorer crashes, so far it has been resolved.

Yes, it would make Microsoft unhappy to be unable to track your activities.

Key Loggers are also in all browsers and office tools(spell check) so if you all are worried then turn that stuff off now. They are not monitoring what you type but your choices and how it's used to improve the experience(make things easier). Also this is only for the Preview.

It's the same when earlier upgrading from 7 to 8, where you went to Microsoft.com to have your system checked to see if you could even install 8 and which programs you had to uninstall before the upgrade process(like WMC).

Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program is just another name for tracking the user.
There are ~30 tasks related to it, just reading their descriptions gives a good idea, what they do.
There are 3 diagnostic services and error reporting, which deal with with computer related issues.

I just found this: How to disable the Diagnostics Tracking Service in Windows - gHacks Tech News and thought it might interes you. Personally I leave all Windows services to default, but rather than totally shut something off, it is recommended to set a service to Manuel.

Alrighty then, set start-up to Manual, and stopped the damned thing. If it starts up on boot, I'll set it to Disabled. I have to question why it doesn't natively run as Manual and auto-runs. Yeah sure it only takes up 1.5-1.6MB of RAM but still not a reason to run it if there's no reason. Especially on Windows 8.1.

The thing is, Windows 8.1 groups together services based on what is needed. The frustrating thing is how Microsoft seems to have completely forgotten that part so DiagTask sticks out because its running in its own process group "utcsvc". Legit they could apply it to a group or something so as to not clutter up the Task Manager. Just saying, Microsoft...

Cliff S right about some other update for this Diag Tracking, after those Tues. Updates May 12 it is like yours set to Automatic, which was once set to manual before it. Seems optional updates were made important or recommended on Tues.

Just realized from another post here taking this update has caused issues for some, namely me, ran SFC received files could not be repaired, DISM failed also.

that had this issue and uninstalled the update and all was good. Same was helpful to me, uninstalled optional update to enable Diag tracking KB3022345 ,all is good now, no integrity violations in SFC and DISM checks out good too.

Tried windows debugger on error shown in Event Viewer, although never helped me, posted here too and just as hard to decipher. Well i tried at first disabling this service (diag tracking) as you did, i would of never known it caused integrity violations and DISM issues till i came across that post i linked. Checking mine having same results, well all is good.
