This will show you how to add or remove input methods (IME) for the keyboard layout of an added language to be able to type in any language without having to change the display language in your user account in Windows 8 and 8.1.

Synopsis
This will show you how to add or remove input methods (IME) for the keyboard layout of an added language to be able to type in any language without having to change the display language in your user account in Windows 8 and 8.1.

This will show you how to add or remove input methods (IME) for the keyboard layout of an added language to be able to type in any language without having to change the display language in your user account in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

You can type in any of the languages you have added by quickly switching between input methods (keyboard layouts).





OPTION ONE
To Add or Remove Keyboard Input Methods using Control Panel

1. Do step 2, 3, or 4 below for how you would like to open Language settings.​
2. Click/tap on the input indicator system icon in the notification area on the taskbar, click/tap on Language preferences, and go to step 5 below. (see screenshot below)​
NOTE: The input indicator system icon will only be displayed if you had already previously added a language.​

3. Open the Control Panel (icons view), click/tap on the Language icon, and go to step 5 below.​
4. In Windows 8 and Windows RT, open PC settings, click/tap on General on the left side, click/tap on the Language Preferences link under Language on the right side, and go to step 5 below. (see screenshot below)​

5. Either double click/tap on an added language or click/tap on Options for an added language that you would like to add or remove input methods for, then do step 6 or 7 below for what you would like to do. (see screenshot below)​

6. To Add Keyboard Input Methods
A) Under Input method, click/tap on the Add an input method link. (see screenshot below)​
NOTE: You will see the current input methods already added listed here.​

B) Either double click/tap on an input method you want to add, or select an input method and click/tap on Add. (see screenshot below)​

At anytime you can click/tap on the Preview link to see a keyboard layout preview of the input method.

C) Repeat steps 6A to 6B if you would like to add another input method for the selected added language (step 5).​
D) Go to step 8 below.​
7. To Remove Keyboard Input Methods
A) Under Input method, click/tap on the Remove link for a listed input method that you want to remove. (see screenshot below)​
NOTE: If you only have one input method listed for the added language, then you will not be able to remove the input method until you add another input method first.​

At anytime you can click/tap on the Preview link to see a keyboard layout preview of the input method.

B) Repeat step 7A if you would like to remove another input method for the selected added language (step 5).​
C) Go to step 8 below.​
8. When finished, click/tap on Save. (see screenshots below)​

9. The keyboard input method will now be added or removed from the list when switching between input methods. (see screenshots below)​

OPTION TWO
To Add or Remove Keyboard Input Methods using PC settings

1. Do step 2 or 3 below for what Windows 8 you have.​
2. In Windows 8 and Windows RT, open PC settings, click/tap on General on the left side, click/tap on the Language Preferences link under Language on the right side, and go to step 5 in OPTION ONE above. (see screenshot below)​

3. In Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1, open PC settings, click/tap on Time and language on the left side, and go to step 4 below. (see screenshot below)​

4. Click/tap on Region and language on the left side of "Time and language". Click/tap on an added language that you want to add or remove a keyboard input method for, and click/tap on Options. (see screenshot below)​

5. Do step 6 or 7 below for what you would like to do.​
6. To Add Keyboard Input Methods
A) On the right side under Keyboards, click/tap on + Add a keyboard, click/tap on the keyboard input method you want to add, and go to step 8 below. (see screenshot below)​

7. To Remove Keyboard Input Methods
A) On the right side under Keyboards, click/tap on an added keyboard input method you want to remove, click/tap on Remove, and go to step 8 below. (see screenshot below)​

8. When finished, you can close PC settings if you like.​
9. The keyboard input method will now be added or removed from the list when switching between input methods. (see screenshots below step 9 in OPTION ONE above)​
