The internet connection I am getting is fiber optic 100Mbps Upload & Download. The router is Dlink 850L.

My router is placed in my lounge. I usually sit at a desk with my laptop which is about 6 feet away from the router (in the same room), here I get full signal & my speed is about 40Mbps.
Firstly I'd like to know if there is anything I can do to improve this speed as when I do a speedtest on my desktop PC connected via ethernet cable to the router it is around 90Mbps.
When I move the laptop to the bedroom which is about the same distance but separated by 2 walls the speed goes down to around 10Mbps and WIFI signal changes from full to half full.
How can I strengthen the WIFI signal so I get the same speed & signal anywhere in the house?

I have learn't about 5GHZ signal which my router supports but not my laptop. If I upgrade to 5GHZ on my laptop will this solve the issue of a weak signal & slow speed?

It looks like the best bet for me is a wireless repeater. Can someone recommend one for me

It sounds like you should get a wireless adapter. Your laptop wifi card/chip on the motherboard is most likely a very cheap model that has a low signal range. I don't really think you have a need for a repeater though. It's pretty rare when extra hardware is needed.

I think you maybe right as the distance from the routers location to my bedroom is not that far separated by two walls.
Can I replace the wifi card in the laptop with a better one, dual 5ghz. Or do I buy a usb?
If USB I have picked out the dlinkdwa-182. Is this a good one? I think it'll be best to stay with dlink as my router is dlink also

Personally, I prefer usb adapters but if you use wifi like 20+ hours a day a card may be the road to go. That adapter should suffice.
