Hello everyone..can somebody help me with my problem?? I was trying to modify the system file "imageres.dll"..The thing is, i want to replace it with a modified "imageres.dll" from desktop to its place but it was always saying that it can't be replaced because its open..So, wath i think would work is that, i renamed the ORIGINAL "imageres.dll" to "imageres2.dll" and then copied the modified "imageres.dll" from the desktop to "C:\Windows\System32" and then tried to delete the ORIGINAL "imageres.dll" which was renamed to "imageres2.dll"..And then VOILA! theres nothing happening, the modified "imageres.dll" from desktop wasn't there and the ORIGINAL "imageres.dll" (imageres2.dll) file is still there and can't be deleted! Now i'm having problem with this cause when i try to open Control Panel, nothing's shown! i still don't know what else goes wrong but i'm really alarmed about my Control Panel being '"blanked"! Please somebody help me..i'm really regreting what i've done now :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

imageres2.dl

so change the name back to imageres.dll, that was part of the reason why you changed the name correct ,so you still had the file in case something happened

Doesn't SFC /scannow replace missing or damaged system files? Run the system file checker from a command prompt as admin.

There's more copies of imageres.dll (and imageres.dll.mui) in the \Windows\WinSXS\ folder:

There are different versions for each of X86 and X64 and they are not interchangeable, so don't go messing with them, without due caution. (I don't know if that's true or not, they are both the same size.)
