I have Windows 8 and, of course, IE10. I have Google set as my home page and when I open IE it always opens up with Google as it should. However, for the past few days, along with Google, it always opens with a tab called, "Ten Must-know-windows 8 features." When I click on Tools/Internet Options in the box at the top where it has the home page that I want, it has Google at the top and just below that it has the ," Ten Must-----" web site. I can delete the one that I don't want, but the next time I open IE, that tab is still there. I even went to the Tabs settings and made sure it was set to default. I restarted my computer and it didn't help. I then went to Advanced settings and reset to default setting. That made it worse. It now opens Google, and an extra Google tab along with the " Ten Most--most" tab. I have been using IE for quite some time and this is the first time it has happened. It's not a big problem, but it shouldn't be doing that.

Hello Frank,

Odd, you might see if using the tutorial below to specify and prevent changing the home page may work as a workaround for this until a better solution is found.

Internet Explorer Home Page - Specify and Prevent Changing - Windows 7 Forums

The home pages for IE10 are saved in the registry locations below. You might also check there to remove the "ten must" entry.

Current User:

(Main Home Page)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Start Page string value (right pane)

(Secondary Home Pages)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Secondary Start Pages string value (right pane)

OR

Applied to All Users (overrides above):

(Main Home Page)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Start Page string value (right pane)

(Secondary Home Pages)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Secondary Start Pages string value (right pane)

Brink--By trial and error (mostly error) I managed to fix it. I went through the tutorial and everything seemed to be set the way it should be. So, I asked myself what was I doing before this happened. Well--I was messing the Tabs settings in IE and also some things under the Advanced/Browser settings. So in order to fix the problem I first set the tabs setting back to default with no help. I then went to Advanced settings and clicked on Restore Advanced Settings. Still it didn't fix it. So this last time I went to the Advanced settings and clicked on Reset. That did the trick. Thanks for your feedback on this.
