SOLVED: Can't Access MSA or Change Display Setting in VM
I'm teaching myself Hyper-V as an alternative to VMWare. I activated Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 and used it to create a Windows 10 virtual machine.
I quickly discovered that I'm not able to sign in to my Microsoft Account from the virtual machine because "to sign in remotely, you need the right to sign in through Remote Desktop Services." And in my local account I can't change my display settings because "the display settings can't be changed from a remote session."
How can I sign in to my Microsoft Account and change my display settings from a Hyper-V virtual machine?
EDIT: After several hours of research on the internet, I figured out how to solve my problem. Ta Da!
First, I discovered that by default, my virtual machine was in a Public network. I switched to a Private network by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet (in my case) > click on the icon for your network (which says 'Connected') > see the switch below "Allow your PC to be discoverable by other PCs and devices on this network ..." and set the switch to On.
Then, I navigated to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Groups where I added both my local account - where I can't change my display settings - and my Microsoft Account - where I can't sign in at all - to the Remote Desktop Users group.
After a restart this solved both my problems.
I still don't know why a Hyper-V virtual machine is in a remote session with its host computer. I don't recall seeing that on VMWare. I guess that's one more thing for me to learn. And I will.
