Hello everyone, let me start off by apologizing if this was in the wrong section (I was thing maybe this should have been put in the updates section?).

Any way,

My issue is that I have a HP Pavilion G6 2399-sa and it is currently running the HP OEM version of windows 8, I have previously updated to windows 8.1...twice in fact and every time that I have updated to windows 8.1 I get random freezing issues. These freezing issues occur at random times there doesn't really seem to be some pattern to it.

I know that I have to update to windows 8.1 as there are apps which refuse to be installed unless I update ... So does anyone have any ideas on what to do because I need to update again so I can use my apps...I do recall reading something about Dynamic ticking I think? It was some command in cmd prompt like bcdedit /set disabledynamicticking yes I believe. Would that help or does anyone have any ideas?

I would really appreciate any advice and thank you in advance.

Aaron,

The first things that comes to mind is what other programs do you have installed?

It could be something as simple as one of your existing programs is not compatible with Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 is a whole new OS and not a simple update.

Driver incompatibility has also been a common problem after the upgrade from 8 to 8.1 so before you attempt the upgrade again make sure you have the latest drivers as well as windows updates.

What antivirus are you running if any? Some may not be ready for 8.1

My HP (purchased last Dec) and preinstalled with 8.0 handled the upgrade to 8.1 quite well but I did the upgrade after just two days and had not installed any additional programs. I waited till after the upgrade to install anything that wasn't present when I got it so I avoided any conflicts with existing programs.

As mentioned before I have attempted this multiple times and I actually factory reset the laptop at one point and did the upgrade to 8.1 and the problem still occurred without any programs installed. As for Anti-virus I WAS using ESET SS but now I am using Avira.

Sorry if some of these questions seem overly basic or redundant!

How old is your PC?

After your factory reset did you attempt to get all windows updates as well as HP updates?

What antivirus was present after the restore to factory condition and was this antivirus in place when you did the upgrade?

I am not familiar with either of the 2 antivirus programs you mentioned but I have read that some AV programs could interfere with the upgrade if the AV is active at the time.
