I just installed Windows 8 and most things work well. My printer does work, but it will not scan. I need the scanner desperately. It works from my laptop on Windows 7. Both computers are wirelessly connected, and there is no problem with the connection. Any help here?

Hi. First, do a Windows Update and install all the latest drivers/patches.

If still need help, change the bi-directional communication setting in the driver properties. If it is enabled, disable it. If it is disabled, enable it. See how it goes.

How do I change the bi-directional communication setting?

I can't say for sure since none of the machines I have access to at the moment are set up with a printer.

Probably Control Panel (Default view) | View Devices and Printers | Right click now on the printer and choose Printing Properties | Ports tab

Or something along those lines - there will be a setting for it somewhere in there, probably.

I have an 8510 and to get it to work, I had to install from the CD that came with it -- and even then, that was in Win7 machines, not in Win8. HP is infamouse for requiring you to use their own installers, especially for multi-function machines.

So, have you tried installing from the CD? When I did this on other machines, and the 8510 was connected to the network, the HP installer found the machine and let me add it.

Tried that with the software CD and now my printer will not work on my Windows 8 desktop. I can print from my laptop, but that is taking everything on a thumb drive to the laptop. I called HP and they will not help me because Win 8 has not been released yet. So now, I have no idea. Foolishly, I did a System Cleanup, thinking it was a disc cleanup. No. It erased a lot of my programs that were on 32bit. Also, it deleted Outlook and Office all together.
