Hi,

I have just tried to Refresh my Windows 8.1 installation, but when running the refresh Windows 8.1 came up with an error I have not seen before, let alone do the refresh. :o

It displayed a message saying "The Drive is Locked, you will have to unlock the drive to continue" so HOW do you unlock a Hard Drive please ?

Hope someone knows how to do this before I either pull my hair out, or start from scratch and re-format the drive and do a complete new install of Windows 8.1 :(

One thing I have done about a week ago which may be causing this problem is I converted the Drive from MBR to GPT and if this has locked the drive, I am still in the position of not knowing how to fix the problem.

Thanks in advance

If you still had the disk set with MBR its a simple fix, not sure how to fix it with GPT

To Fix a a corrupt MBR (Master Boot Record) or corrupt BCD (Boot Configuration Data) follow these steps to repair your PC.
To fix this problem, follow these steps:
1) Insert your Windows installation CD and boot the computer using the CD.
2) As the computer boots, you need to navigate through these prompts to get to the Command Prompt:
- First it asks what language and keyboard you use on the Windows Setup screen. Click the Next button.
- Then on the next screen click the link on the bottom that says "Repair your computer"
- Then on the Choose an option screen, click the Troubleshoot link.
- Then on the Troubleshoot screen, click the Advanced options link.
- Then on the Advanced options screen, click the Command Prompt link.
3) Enter these commands at the command prompt:
- Type: bootrec /fixmbr and press the Enter key
- Type: bootrec /fixboot and press the Enter key
- Type: bootrec /RebuildBcd and press the Enter key
- Then it will ask Yes or No, type: Y
4) After typing the command above, the problem should be fixed. You can follow these steps to restart your computer:
- If you are still in the command prompt type: exit and press the Enter key
- You may want to remove the Windows CD from your computer before restarting.
- Then on the Choose an option screen click the Continue link.
Your computer should now restart normally.

And if im trying to repair with a USB pen how is this command Type: bootrec /RebuildBcd ???

What is the issue you are having with the USB? and what is on the USB you are trying to boot?

I have windows 8.1 on my laptop. Now when i start is going to a blue screen, thats says need reparation.

I put windows 8.1 on a USB , and tried to restore , but it says HardDrive is Locked like ROger.

What do you think is my best option????

Also someone said to me to put Ubuntu on a USB and retrive my data from HardDrive and then reinstall windows from USB.
