How to solve an almost full C drive issue?

Hi all,

It seems that my C and D drives are not partitioned equally and now my C drive is almost full.
To avoid any mishaps from happening to my ACER laptop, what should I do to my C drive and how should I go about to repartition both drives or combine both drives into 1? Any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks!

You have the option of shrinking d then increasing c into the free space or if you can loose the data and make it one big c drive. Its simpler to do it with free partitioning software you have to shrink d to then move it to the left so free space is in front then you can increase c they have tutors and the software Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free

Hi samuria,

Thanks for the tip but I still can't figure out how to move my space from 1 disk to another. Here's the attachment printscreen I am facing right now.

I did the cleanup but not a lot of space are freed up. I am now at 1.65gb. Any other suggestions that may help? Thanks!

From the screenshot you posted from Mini-tool, it looks like you have maybe a 128GB SSD as your C: drive and your D: drive is a separate physical 1TB drive. That means that you won't be able to re-partition to add move space from the D: to the C:.

If you absolutely can't shrink the C: drive any further or perhaps move some data from the C: drive to the D: drive, you might consider getting a larger SSD (maybe 256GB) and cloning your current C: drive to it.

Thanks for the advice guys! I tried uninstall some programmes to free up some space but it only gave me 500mb extra, How do I transfer files to my D drive then? Would some programs be unable to run after I made the transfer? I need some help as the problem doesn't seem to be easy as it looks. Let me know what can I do or what printscreens you require me to provide. Thank you.

If you're talking about data files such as documents, pictures, videos, etc... you can simply find them in File Explorer then click and drag them from the C: to the D: drive. If you're talking about installed programs then you will need to uninstall and re-install them to move them to the D: drive.

^ Thanks for the tips guys. Just a question, is it advisable if I transfer my 'users' folder to my D drive? I realised half of my space are taken up by it. Would it have any adverse effects on my laptop if I were to transfer my folder over? Thank you.

It can complicate OS partition restore attempts later on. If the OS ever crashed badly enough to force a restore; you might have to restore both the OS and the Data partitions, whether you want to or not.
