How to set Google search preferences to English?

Sorry, didn't notice that .

That works Kari, but one must keep the Google cookie or you'll have to take those steps every time one wants to use search.

Yes, exactly as I mentioned. It's up to user to decide: achieving what this OP wants, allowing Google to store cookies is the only option. There are no other ways to save the language information.

I do accept cookies, but they are deleted every time my browsers (firefox & chrome) are closed...

So that won't work.
Then you need to go into each browser's settings and change the behavior. Don't have them delete cookies on exit. If you use CCleaner, you can choose which cookies to keep.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

However, cookies are only accepted for me in order for the websites that I visit to work properly. And the cookies are removed upon exit, and that's how I will keep it because I will not give any hacker or any government agency the ability to get ANYTHING out of my lap top, if it ever comes down to that...

Since all the solutions here revolve around using a cookie, or messing with the cookies and making my life difficult in order to get what I want, I will simply switch to yahoo or duckduckgo and be done with it.

As far as the cookies being the only solution, it may be so, but I didn't have this problem last year, so if Google wants people to Have to have cookies enables so that they can advertise to them, I won't do it. If google wants people to have cookies enabled and kept so that they can advertise to us more efficiently, I won't do it. Google wants to limit my freedom in order for them to make money, no no and no.

The people that keep their cookies can always change the way they search on google, but the people that do not use cookies are basically put in an impossible situation. Gestapo Google...

Thanks everyone for your efforts :)
