I have a new 8.1 laptop with MS Office pre-installed but it doesn't seem to actually do anything except offer a trial of 365.

This is despite the files being over 300 MB ! As listed in Programs & Features.

I have installed a licenced desktop MS Office 2007 application which I prefer and which is working fine.

So is it possible, and safe, to uninstall the pre-installed program?

If so, what is the best way to do it?
Would Iobit uninstaller be OK ?

I uninstalled the supplied MS Office trial, choosing LibreOffice instead (hardly need anything elaborate when word processing, etc). I just used the Programs and Features in Windows 8.1 to remove it. Worked fine for me.

Great, thanks fo reply, I will uninstall it.

I'm trying LibreOffice too, seems excellent so far so I'll probably get rid of all the MS stuff.

Did you uninstall all the ASUS bloatware too ?

Well, I don't own an ASUS, but I removed most of the bloatware on the Dell laptop I'm using right now. The only thing I kept was Dropbox, but that might be going sooner or later.

1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Click Programs > Programs and Features.
3. Right-click the Office application you want to remove, and then click Uninstall. Note If you have a suite like Microsoft Office 365, search for the suite name.

Hope it helps.
