How to prevent the Keyboard Shortcuts panel from appearing

Regularly, when using keyboard shortcuts a Keyboard Shortcuts panel appears automatically. I can't find a way to close the panel out.
The only way I can close it is to shut the computer down.
Is there a way to open the panel, manually, if needed, and then close it?
If not, is there a way to prevent the panel from appearing at all?

Thanks for the help.

Edit: The panel is displayed every time I use a keyboard shortcut.

Solved: To make the panel hide, press Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Right-cursor-key.

Can you provide steps to take to recreate the problem?

As a test machine, not my permanent XP machine, I'm running Windows 8 as a virtual guest of Virtualbox to a host of Ubuntu 12.04 .
Every time I press a keyboard shortcut, a Keyboard Shortcut window/panel appears in the middle of the screen.
I found that I can hide it by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Shift + right cursor/arrow key, but I couldn't find a way to prevent it from coming up.
Thanks for your quick response.
