how to prevent computer to load devices?

i have mentioned this problem in another of my topics, but since there was no actual response to it, i decided to start a new topic

I have computer with 1TB hard drive, and since that wasnt enough for me, I bought external disk. however, since i use it mostly as a primary drive, its plugged in the computer all the time.
now, the problem is that it when plugged in, booting process takes veeeeeeery long time. how can i prevent it to start it up during the computer start up, and to run when the windows is started?

that would be a little complicated, considering my desk's size and shape and cable lenght.
Hard disk is behind my desk, so to unplug it would take moving the desk every time i boot my computer. Is there a way to make change to bios setting which would prevent loading from specific port during the booting process or something like that?

You will need to set the Hard Drive as 1st Boot Drive in BIOS:

Press DEL/F10. There are many more, these are just examples. And a BIOS is usually Blue Background and White text.

I've set hard disk first, then nothing, then nothing. But it wont start windows boot until external hd is started up.

This sort of "complication" should be readily overcome...

It sounds like your real issue is NOT the hard drive but the LONG BOOT UP TIME when the drive is plugged in. Is that correct? Then you have to not worry about the drive itself but what windows is trying to DO with the drive when you boot. I could see Windows indexing the drive every time you boot or trying to autorun the drive then defaulting to your other drive. Try eliminating these two possiblities. You can also check to see what is taking so much time in boot up by this web page (I just Googled boot up time and this was the 1st hit)

not quite i was talking about.
when i press the button to start the computer, it takes 1:02.6 to start loading windows. windows are loaded in 1-2 seconds.
when i unplug and then press the button to start the computer, it takes 11.2 seconds to start loading windows. windows are loaded in 1-2 seconds,
and it says:

EDIT: and is it normal that i have 959 warnings, errors, and criticals?

Sounds like an Anti-virus scan running at bootup??? Or a scareware problem??

Hmmm, that's a good one! I would still go with my first guess which is that the BIOS is flipping through all your devices to figure out which device to boot from. For instance, if you have your BIOS set to boot from ANY OTHER device besides your boot hard drive, it could cause the USB drive to come first before defaulting to the right drive. Go into the BIOS and turn off ALL other boot devices besides your boot hard drive (you can just disable CDROM etc). That should stop this drive from affecting your boot drive boot up.
An example would be if you had a non bootable CDROM in your DVD ROM drive. The BIOS would usually attempt to read the drive before bothering to try the hard drive.

@madhorseman, no it has nothing with antivirus, it was like that since i installed win7 and win8. im 100% sure that my bitdefender is not a scareware

@johnpombrio i have selected following boot menu:
1. hard disk
2. none
3. none

still, when shows boot version and all other stuff, like processor, ram check, and other, (the very first screen), it won't move on until it has started external hd.

Just based on my experience.
- Did you set the BIOS not to boot from USB device? (though it's an ext HDD but it surely a USB device). If it is, then BIOS will direct the system to search any startup/boot files thoroughly in your external drive, the bigger capacity, the longer I guess
- Try to convert your ext HDD partition from primary to logical logical drive. (just an additional step).

well, i don't have enough free memory to back up things that i need from ext hdd to format it...

and yes, i have set it to boot only from hard disk, and that shouldn't load ext since its plugged in usb port.
