Most people on these Forums are quite happy to help other people but one should always do a bit of BASIC research first before asking a relatively simple question that takes about 2 secs to find on google.

Hi there jimbo, I don't think it's quite as simple as that. I already Googled for an answer. In fact I opened the site you show on your post. I can't seem to find a 'Word Viewer 2003 & I don't want to purchase MS Office, ( I use OpenOffice) & I don't think that will open them anyway. Every time I click on one of the links in that site it takes me to the same 'Download Center'. I can't transfer it to .doc, because I can't open the document to save it in a different format.

The Metro reader seems to be able to view the documents but that Bonkers application doesn't have any PRINT facilities.

Jimbo and XweAponX are basically correct.
But, as I proposed in a posts a long time ago, is this good news for forums, or does it mean their eventual demise? I would say certainly not, to the latter. For legacy applications, I would say all bases have been covered. It is probably easier to google for an answer to, say a Windows 7 problem. But the 90% chance is it would lead you to a forum link, so here we are again.
Windows 8 has not yet got it's second wind, but googling would, again, also bring you back to the forums.
The "non" nerds, probably do not even know that forums exists for such subjects, but most do know how to google and probably end up finding a site such as this one and becoming a member.

Very strange, or maybe there's a sensible answer. I downloaded MS Office Word Viewer 2003, but it wouldn't open .wps files properly, (they were all jumbled up). I then downloaded the MS Works 6-9 File Converter & now the .wps file open fine, but in MS Word Viewer. And Google didn't have an answer for that one, it took advice from medab 1 & Kari to make it work. Ok jimbo!! Thanks a lot guys, as usual you always come through.

Good to know you found a solution. Thanks for posting back, it is valuable information for other users to know that Word Viewer alone was not enough to read Works wps files, but after installing the Works Converter it works.

Glad you found found a way to open the files.
Here is a Microsoft link that may be of interest:

^This.

I had a same problem, Word Viewer didnt work at all alone, the .wps file i tried to open was just mumble. I got Office 2010 and i ONLY installed this MS Works 6-9 File Converter and the file opened perfectly in Office 2010 Word. So there is both needed,
Word Viewer/Word AND MS Works 6-9 File Converter.

Posted just for leading in easier solution.

Well, the best solution is to install Works and use that to access the docs. I actually saved an old copy of it just in case I ever needed to use the Word Processor.

That's cos someone else gets the same problem. Works may be a dead program, I don't know if they are still making it.

OFFICE 2010 and probably above WILL Open Works documents made with Works 6 through 9.

Hey Jimbo, got a kick out of your reply, but not sure of your real knowledge. There are many more intelligent words to use that
don't have to have most of the spelling bleeped out.

I had no problem when I opened in file viewer lite. I used ctrl + A to select all, then copied it into a wordpad, or even Jarte.
Good luck.
I think you can upgrade file opener night and has more options, but costs, I haven't checked that out.
Hope this works for you.

As far as I know Microsoft Works is no longer being made by Microsoft. the last time I ever used or saw it was on a computer I had gotten in 2008 that was the year I got a computer with windows vista on it.

I tried Microsoft word viewer and it can view but nothing else. Is there a program anywhere that can edit WPS files?
Thanks Wayne
