How To Enable Blue Bitlocker Unlock Screen At Startup

We have a few computers running Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 here. For some reason my machine has a black and white DOS-style unlock screen for BitLocker.

Another computer we have here has a modern-style, Windows 8 looking, light-blue & white unlock screen for BitLocker.

Why has my PC defaulted to this older looking UI? Is there any way to change it?

Hello Rotom, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Double check to see if the tutorial below to enable the newer Windows 8 startup screen may be able to help with this as well.

Hope this helps for now, :)

Thanks Shawn.

I didn't change the boot settings. These are settings that can also be configured in MSCONFIG -> Boot, with a GUI.

I do not have "No GUI" boot option on. There is a GUI, just not on the BitLocker unlock screen in the beginning.

Hello,

I am not an expert, but I had the same issue with Windows 8.1 on one of my notebooks. I solved the same issue - dos style boot screen partially - doing the following:

Since I had enough space on my hard drive, I installed windows 10 preview next to it. I assume any Windows 8, 8.1 can be used instead.

First I encrypt the Windows 10 preview and I got the metro blue screen at boot time to enter the credentials.
Next I booted into my Windows 8.1 and encrypted it with bitlocker. On reboot, I got the blue metro screen for entering the password.

This worked for rebooting Windows.

Shutting down and after that booting will give me still the dos style boot screen, if fast boot is switched on. If not I am getting the metro style boot screen.

For the latter problem - shut down and boot using fast boot - I still don't have a solution.
