How to download the Windows 8.1 ISO

This person is one that i know has used the downloaded ISO.

I reloaded Win 8.1 with the newly downloaded ISO doing a clean install. For the installation I used a generic key from the MS web-site. After the installation I activated Win 8.1 with my Win 8 product key without a problem. I am all set and happy with this much faster clean install.

I haven't tried do do a clean install this way... yet.

After spending whole night, it came to nothing for me, I have tried reset after upgrade through the Store, then I tried to do a clean install, failed again, both attempt resulted in an evaluation copy installed( Build No: 9600)

Not sure what's going on as it sounds like you did what i did.

I upgraded through the store, then booted into the Windows 8.1 setup i had created on a USB and chose repair my PC. Here i chose Reset and it went off an did its thing.

End result was a clean install (of sorts).

I assume you have a retail key and had the install after upgrade activated?

I did not face that issue.

Since I posted the screenshot here it would seem the problem is with MS servers.

You might be right, I don't have a retail key, I have an upgrade key, the cheaper version initially sold for £25, anyway, good luck to all those who managed a clean install and thanks for posting, I wasn't too keen on 8.1 earlier but when I tried the 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation version and saw your post, thought of giving it a try, 8.1 Ent. version seems OK.

My key was the upgrade offer last year (279SEK) i think, bout £25. SO sounds like i used (successfully) the same type of key as you.

Installed with the generic key then successfully changed it to my own windows 8 pro upgrade key in PC settings (Bought when it was on offer for £24.99). I was expecting all sorts of problems to be honest but it went pretty smoothly.

The initial download? I stopped it as soon as it started to download the files.

I've read through this thread and nothing works. So my udnerstanding is that if you have an OEM key for a machine built, then you have no way of getting a 8.1 ISO?

This is just terrible of MS. No point in this at all for anyone.

I am now forced to install Windows 8 first, then upgrade through the App store.

I take it this also means that the Reset PC wont work as that would require media that I do not have.

In my case it downloaded for 30 sec and then I stopped it

ok so ive been through all this and the frustration of getting the we cannot connect message has gotten to me so can somebody PLEASE upload windows 8.1 64 bit iso

if you have the OEM version of windows 8 you need to wait for these versions of the windows 8.1 ISO to go up on msdn:

Windows 8.1 (multiple editions) (x64) - DVD (English)
Windows 8.1 (multiple editions) (x86) - DVD (English)


OEM keys work with multiple edition iso, however Microsoft has yet to provide the 8.1 iso.
