Hello everyone I am using Windows 8.1 x64. I would like to know how to add a gmail account to my Windows Mail app so that I can view my mail from there. Please note I do not and am using a Microsoft account to log into my pc. I am using a local account and want to keep it that way. Now I have followed the steps given here-:
Set up Mail and add contacts - Microsoft Windows

But I am unable to find Add Account when I click on settings. The Add Account option seems to be located in Settings
-> Change PC Settings -> Add Account. But this creates another user on the system and has nothing to do with the Windows Mail.

Please note my Gmail is protected via 2-step verification. Is it possible to add this type of an account into Windows Mail ? Also how do I add it ? Microsoft seems to force me to use their Microsoft account for email and etc. But I want to use my own gmail account.

Thanks.

Thanks. It seems that unless you sign in with your Microsoft Account you can't add other accounts like Gmail and etc. Thanks for the help. I would have liked the Windows Mail app better if there wasn't this hassle of signing in with your Microsoft Account first.

Are you able to add a throwaway MS account and filter all mail containing "@" send to junk. This mail will be deleted after 15 days. Or does it have to be your win 8 sign in account before gmail?

This is for security reasons. The app is via MS services and servers. The "walled garden" approach. One has to sign into any account no matter what account it is.

I sign into my PC with MS account, so therefore it signs me in everywhere, but sometimes asks me to at least input password depending on what I'm signing into. I wouldn't know this either > Does the app ask to save your sign in info such as a browser would? Or is it that you don't desire a MS account?
