How many rigs do you have ?

We have too many at our house to list all of their specs.

I have 2 servers, a self-built tower desktop, 2 laptops, 2 netbooks, a Windows 8.1 tablet and an Android tablet.

My wife has a laptop.

My oldest son has a self-built tower desktop and a laptop.

Another son has a self-built tower desktop, 2 laptops, a netbook and 2 Android tablets.

Oldest daughter has a tower desktop and netbook.

Youngest daughter has a self-built tower desktop, a netbook and an Android tablet.

If I counted correctly that's 23, whew!

Wow... That's a hi-tech house !

Yup. BTW, I realized I left some out. I also have 2 Android mini-PCs and a Raspberry PI.

I know most families have "the family computer". From a fairly early age all 4 of my kids have had their own computers. My wife is the least interested in tech in the family, that's why she has only the laptop and didn't even have that until a couple of years ago. She mostly plays Spider Solitaire and looks up lottery results on her laptop, not much else.

All 4 kids and I also have "smart" Android phones but my wife has only a "dumb" phone because that's all she wants.

Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
My 6 year old boy also has his own desktop and tablet ! It's cool to watch him having fun and learning !

I have very much simplified. Tossed out about 8 old computers about 2 years ago.

1 desktop, now 5 years old. Haven't turned on in nearly 1 year. Q9550, 570gtx, 80gb SSD, 1tb wd black, 8gb ram. Win7.

1 desktop server. Runs 24x7. Corei3, 8gb ram, 4TB of storage. Win7.

Wife has Samsung series 7 ultrabook. Corei5, 8gb ram, 128gb SSD, touch, 13.3 1920x1080. Win8

Kids have Dell inspiron15 touch. Corei3, 8gb ram, 500Gb mechanical hard drive. Win8

For work, I carry daily a Dell latitude 6430u ultrabook. Corei7, 256gb msata SAD, 16gb of ram. 1600x900 14". This is machine I use 95% of time at home. Win8

We have an Asus transformer android tablet, but hardly ever use it. Wife has new iPad Air which she uses all of the time for work and personal use. I have a 128gb surface pro which just sits at work and hardly ever is used.

For my personal home use, I'm contemplating buying a 13" Mac book pro with retina for my day to day use rather than using my work laptop. Just ready for something new and different.

Well, need to add one more machine to my lineup.

I bought the retina MacBook Pro 13" with 8GB RAM and 256GB PCIExpress SSD. Now just trying to figure out how to use it. Making progress, but it certainly is different.

If we (wife and me) would live in 1 place, I would probably only have minimum gear. But since we live in 3 places thousands of miles apart and don't like to lug the gear, we ended up with 7 PCs (desktops and laptops), 2 tablets and now also 1 W8P (I hate phones).

My two main Windows 8 machines are in my Profile, I also have a Core Duo with Windows 7, and 3 Mac PPC's one of them a G5 dual core.

ALL of my machines are over 6 years old, I nurse them back to health, and the best way to keep em running is to keep em all ON 24/7. I used to shut off my Puters when I was done with a job, and 4 of my PC's from 2001 to 2005 just stopped running. Mostly it's hard drive life, right now main Social Networking rig has five 7 year old HDDs. I just had a scare tonight, when one of my Boot HDD's developed some errors, I had to run CHKDSK from Hiren's and when it rebooted, it came up with e Temp Profile - Thanks to Brink, I fixed it in half an hour, he showed me the right tutorial and now it's running OK

I know what you mean! I just counted the laptops, desktops and servers at our house and we have 10 clients and 2 servers.... It sounds crazy, but we have 4 people in our household and each has a laptop and a desktop PC, so that's 8 right there. I have 2 test systems and a production server and a development server.

Oh, it's a Chinese cheapie called a 'Pendo Pad 4'.

It's nothing flash, but it does what I want it to. And it was only A$129.00 with a USB wireless modem thrown in!!

I put a 16GB microSD into it, and so far that's been plenty. And microSDs are cheap enough....

Here's some specs and a pic.

Wenda.

That's Nice - The Problem with it is it not having Googol Play, but you CAN download app files straight from Googol Play and install them manually... - VLC is the hardest app to get installed, cos they dont really have a real version it's nightly bets, and they have several new beats out daily, I always get the latest one.

That's a lot like my DoPo (Double Power) M7088- Which is actually a Rockchip M7088- I would not be surprised to find it has a Rockchip Processor in it. And your "1 GB Ram" - You shoudl use a Spec app and check to see if it is not really 800mb - But even 800mb is ok for those tablets.

I paid 79 bucks for mine from Amazon - How much was that? You should try to get the OS updated to Jelly Bean at least (Droid 4.1) - 4.4 is the latest DroidOS but they don't put it on those cheepie tabs- And only the Maker of the Tablet can push through an OS update, through the Device on WiFi, they do it OTA.
