you can also use the keyboard to access the quick-access menu by holding down the windows key and typing the "x" key (win + x)

if the app is one of the new Metro apps (the apps you get through the Windows store), you right-click on the app at the start screen and select "uninstall". Or if you have a touch screen, you swipe the app tile downward and then touch the "uninstall" button.

You can access your Desktop screen via the Win8 start screen. If you want to see any of the standard Desktop icons, including the Control Panel, then right click on the Desktop, choose personalize, and select the link that allows you to choose the desktop icons you want to see. Assuming you have chosen the Computer icon, go Computer > C: > Program files, and see if there is an uninstaller in the program folder of the program you want to uninstall. If not, then, assuming you are showing the Control Panel, go Control Panel > Programs and features, and uninstall the program. Exceptionally, if you want to uninstall Norton anything, then go to the Norton web site, and use the provided installer.

also, at the start screen, just start typing "control panel" (don't type the quotes; just type the words inside the quotes)
