Solved How do I swap monitor identity numbers?

I have two monitors and when I boot up my computer the UEFI splash screen appears on my smaller second monitor, rather than on the main monitor where I want it, but the login screen appears on the main monitor. As I normally only switch the second monitor on when I want to put something on it to avoid obscuring what is on my main monitor this is rather irritating.

I am assuming that the reason for this problem is that my main monitor has an identity number 2 and the secondary monitor is numbered 1.

My setup is :-
Windows 8.1, 64 bit;
Asus RAIDR Express PCIe SSD;
Asus GT630-SL-2GD3-L GPU;
Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK 1 Motherboard, BIOS version 0602;
Processor Intel i7-4770S @3.1 GHz;
Kingston Technology XMP Beast Series 32GB 2400MHz DDR3 Memory.

Monitors :-
iiyama Prolite XB2776QS, (27 inch);
Dell u2412m, (24 inch).


I have tried uninstalling the drivers for the Dell monitor and rebooting the computer but it still comes back with an identity number of 1. There is nothing in the Nvidia control centre to enable me to swap the numbers.

Is there any way of swapping the identity numbers over?

PS. The iiyama is connected from the DVI port to the DVI port on the graphics card, the Dell connects from a DVI port to the HDMI port on the graphics card.

The port that the monitor is connected to, and how many monitors are connected, determines the monitor number. The only way to change it is to switch which connector a monitor is connected to. The Video card determines what screen the BIOS splash screen shows on. I have three monitors on my GT640. Monitor 1 is on the HDMI, monitor 2 and 3 on DVI. Right now my BIOS POST Screen and the Windows 8 Boot screen show on Monitor 2. Monitor 1 is set as the main monitor so the logon screen etc shows on it. I would have to set monitor 2 as my main monitor to get it all to show on the one screen. Or swap cables around so my 22 inch wide screen is connected to the DVI connector. That's just the way it is. The video card sets the numbers. If I unplug monitor 1 the numbers will shuffle. What was 2 becomes 1 and what was 3 becomes 2. Drivers have nothing to do with it.

Many thanks for the very swift answer. At least I do not need to waste anymore time looking to solve a problem which cannot be solved. There seem to be a lot of people looking for the answer to this question that you are the first one who has answered it. Unfortunately, if I swap the monitors over I cannot get the resolution I want on my main monitor so I will either have to put up with this or by a different graphics card.

What are the output connector types? If one of them is DVI, you may need a dual link cable to get the 2560x1440 resolution. Your DVI cable may only be a single link cable.

The DVI connection to my iiyama gives me the 2560x1440 resolution which I want, but the Dell works at a maximum of 1920x1200 and this is delivered by the HDMI to DVI cable which I am using. If I had done a little more research I would have chosen a graphics card with 2 DVI ports which would have been about the same price I think.

OK. it looks like the HDMI to DVI is the issue when connected to the iiyama. All three of my monitors are DVI. I use a mini HDMI (video card) to HDMI cable plugged into a HDMI to DVI adapter that feeds my main screen. It's only a 22 inch 1080P. My other two monitors are just 1280x1024 4:3 19 inch LCD's. I guess you'll just have to live with it for now.
