I built a new PC with a new C drive for Windows 8.1 64 bit OS. I had a storage drive (D:) from my old PC and installed it in the new machine. Everything was working fine until I messed up the security settings some how on the old D: drive. I can create and read files and folders but when I try to delete a folder of file made by a program I am denied permission. I can right click on the file or folder and gain control and then delete it. I recently tried coping file from a cd and now there are 20 folder that I have to manually take control of to delete them. I tried to take full control of the drive Windows starts to read all the files on the drive and then stops with the error message"failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access denied and I have to abort the process. The drive is formatted as an NTFS file system. If I right click on the drive and go to security settings it shows me as having all permissions except "special permissions". If I have all the permissions why can't I delete a file or empty folder without having to take possession of each folder manually before I can delete it? How can I change the drive security settings so I can stop getting asked permission to delete my files?

Thanks for your reply to my problem Berton. I tried the instructions in the link but am denied access. I guess I might have to have a command prompt at bootup ? This is what I did. I could reformat the drive but I would have to get a terabyte of stuff off it and then transfer it back on.

Open the Admin Command prompt instead then try net command again:
Win+X->Command Prompt (Admin)

If you get that "Access denied" message again it suggests you have other problems. I right-click the Command Prompt item in Start, Windows System and choose Run as administrator.

Ok I did it. I right clicked on the command app in the start menu and ran as administrator and I set up the admin account.

I then went into the file explorer and right clicked on the D: drive and went to security settings. I chose my other low level admin username and gave it full permission over the drive (not sure of exactly each step I did). When I logged back in as my initial low level admin user I can now delete files on the D: drive again. Interestingly when logged in as the high level administrator I was locked out of the drive, but I could give my other user account privileges/more control. It seems like there is a lot of detail to the user account privileges to learn but I hope I don't have to learn any more of it.
Thanks Berton and Topgundcp, for your help and pointing me in the right direction.
