How do I play MPEG ?

Sorry I am not very skilled at this - I have just checked -In system properties It just says Windows 8 edition and 64 bit

Have you tried installing K-Lite codecpack? That ought to do it.....

Yes I tried - that didnt work either

At some point it'd be good to have a few facts, like whether you have the 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 8, and whether you have the "N" version (no WMP) or not.

You've got about a week left to get upgrade to the Pro Pack! Do it NOW! It will save you a whole lot of time and f-ing around. It's not that expensive.

You'll regret it when it starts selling for mega-bucks after Jan-31 and you're stuck with VLC (which is good, but limited).

Win 8 that ships with new computers is not Win8 Pro, so you cannot upgrade using the free MCE product key. You have to get the Pro Pack.

Did your computer not come with bloat-ware video players to play DVDs? They should do the job too, but not very well.

Honestly, upgrade to pro pack.

The edition of windows you have does not have the ability to decode MPEG2. It is the typical installation that comes with shop bought PC's.

That means Windows media player will not have the ability to play MPEG2, which also means Windows Movie Maker does not have the ability to open them either.

You can install all the codecs you like, but unless they work with Windows media player, it's highly probable they will not work with Windows Movie Maker either.

The only way to get MPEG2 decoding OFFICIALLY in Windows 8 products is by upgrading to Pro Pack, which you have now less than a week to acquire at a reasonable price.
