How do i log into windows 8 if the settings have changed?

I have recently purchased a new laptop for my son. he has changed the password and account settings and now does not know what it is. as a result i am stuck on the login page and cant get past it. Help anyone?

do i have to restore or reset?

Yep, doing a reset at boot would most likely be in order then.
