How do I get the classic color scheme?

If you choose one of the high contrast themes, you can customize the colors to be close to the classic color scheme. There is not one by default.

Choose High Contrast visual style under Personalization options and choose color options. Then you can customize it.

How do I get the classic color scheme?

There is no ''real'' classic theme on Windows 8 like in previous versions of Windows,



but, something similar is available here.



1. Extract the zip file onto the desktop or any other location to get Classic.theme file.

2. Move the Classic.theme file to C:\Windows\Resources\Ease of Access Themes folder (“C” is your Windows 8 system partition).

3. Perform a right-click on desktop, click Personalization to open Personalization window.



4. Here, under High Contrast Themes, you will see the Classic theme along with other high contrast themes. Click on Classic theme to apply it.

To switch back to the default one, simply open Personalization window and click on the default theme (or any other).

I think the "classic" theme actually DOES exist underneath. It's just probably buried. After all, why can it be used on Windows Server 2012 (which is the same codebase?)

It looks like this I've not played with the colours...
