I installed mine to a VHD file. Doesn't require messing with a new partition on your hard drive yet you still get all the speed and support of your current hardware. Create multiple versions to play with!

Hi there
Installed the 64 bit version as a VM under vmware workstation - it failed with version 7.1.3 of vmware workstation but installed fine using the new version 8 of vmware workstation.

Installed as a VM on a Host W7 x-64 enterprise machine - worked fine under V8 of vmware workstation.

Also works under vmware Esxi using the stand alone converter to set up the Virtual Machine.

Cheers

Update

1: Dual booting Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Developer Preview 64 bit on 2 separate drives.

2: Running Windows Developer Preview 32 bit from Virtualbox in Windows 7 64 bit drive.

3: Running Windows Developer Preview 32 bit from Hyper V in Windows Developer Preview 64 bit drive.

Note: Only Keyboard, mouse and network connection are working in the Hyper V install, no audio or USB support at present.

Dual boot on my new Dell laptop. I shrank the Win7 Professional partition using Window's own disk management utility, but formatted the new partition during Win8 64bit install.

My laptop does the same a couple guys mentioned here: it loads Win8's boot manager, and if I choose to load Win7, it reboots and loads Seven directly.

I am planning on installing Ubuntu 11.04 and make it a triple boot, but I think Dell's "recovery" partition will prevent me from doing it. Maybe I'll have to format and reinstall everything.

I installed Windows 8 64 bit on a VHD (30 GB dynamic) in my main 7 drive and set it up as a triple boot with Windows 7 and XP. 7 is still my main, but I'm using 8 a few times as well.

I installed Win 8 x64 on an 300 GB Velociraptor, dual booting with Win 7 x64 (which lives on an Intel X-25 120 GB SSD).

Both are pretty darn snappy, and I just boot into Win 8 to play around with it a bit.

None of the above. I installed it on a seperate HDD (no dual boot) and switch from Win7 with the BIOS boot sequence.

At first I made the mistake to install it over my old Vista without first wiping the partition. That gave me some problems. Once I wiped and redefined the partitions, all went well.

Hay guys i already ran windows 8 in dual boot with windows 7 as well as in virtual box in ubuntu but deleted it anyway.

I wanted to inquire is it worth to set up triple boot of 7,8 and ubuntu or i should wait for the beta release???

When the evaluation runs out you'd need to remove the Developer Preview anyway. Just hold off man!!

I was originally going to put this on my game rig but decided to use my linux netbook for testing windows 8 (hey it says in theory it can run windows starter so why not) gonna hook up my TScreen soon after and test this out on the net book instead...the 42" isnt a touch screen so yea...:( need to look into getting a bigger touch screen down the road...

altho i just may quad boot my other rig, which runs windows XP and 7, Linux (ubuntu and mint)...ok maybe not a quad boot but still ill just cram the 5th OS on it...its got enough room...

Vware first and then fresh 64bit install on Laptop and love W8 can't wait to see the final version starting to play with all the shortcuts for the metro desktop and other neat tricks and tips i have found on theses and other forums. Boots fast and installed fast.
