Hello, sajara. Welcome to EightForums. :)

Good for you. It's a great OS.

Thanks HippsieGypsie.

I must say i'm utterly impressed with the performance on my kids laptop, it's a 4 year old HP 1221p with a Turion X2 with 4Gb Ram, and utterly flies compared to Win 7 in there. This OS is a bit faster on more powerful machines, but it really shines on older ones.. Luckily I've bought 3 licenses at $40 last year and these installs were really due. I wished I had the guts earlier to make the switch.

trip boot, niiice...

Do you guys remember that kid who had 33 OS on his machine..

It was every version of windows up to XP or 2k at the time, plus other various OSs.

He spent a loooong time on it, he found out the hard way that he could only install them in a certain order or the system collapses and he has to start over.. It was on TechTV waaay back.. The ScreenSavers

Started with an early Aloha thru Beta, RTM preview and a full one in Dual boot with W7 on another HDD, chose which one booted thru BIOS so they don't interfere with each other. 5 other OSes running of USB memory sticks ore HDDs.
Diversity is the spice of life !!!!!

Did it from the store and it downloads and then says pending for a long time and the Laptop has SSD's doing Desktop now and its in pending mode.

fast I would of did a clean install but I had to save my files this time I have 6.3mb down and a .98mb up, and when I downloaded the ISO off TechNet it did not take long at all.

I cloned a spinner from my 7 SSD as I found a nice little 320GB Seagate inside a $39 external and then upgraded it to 8 with a double disk 8 upgrade - 32 and 64bit ($53).

The system is flying and the drive is only a 5400 rpm job. Between apps is lightning and the updates take very little time to install. The only things that I found rather disconcerting was the OS would only let me set the language at English - UK and the ads were of UK companies.
Next is the security I hope my Kaspersky that I had on the 7 will activate on this OS when it sees it is the original motherboard.

I prefer the win+X to start things though the panels I am not keen on. The login got a bitof getting used to but for $93 all set up noot bad and not as freakish as I thought it might be.

Now I have reinstalled with the SSD in and I ma now concerned about turning off the defrag as I don't know where to find the accessories and tools. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

You should not have to do anything, instead of Defrag you should see TRIM command. You can check at : Right click on My Compputer /Manage / Storage / Disk Management ...... Right click on that drive Properties / Tools/ Optimize. There you should be able to turn off or on optimization. If it is listed as "Solid state drive" when you press "Optimize" for that drive it should force run "Trim" command instead of "De-fragmentation".

Yes Mike I know I can check the TRIM with the command line
"fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify " and depending on if it is 1 or 0 then it is on or off.(on is 0)

But what I am more concerned about is the built in defrag tool if indeed there is one and turning it off - I might have to duck back to 7 forum and find the tutorial and do it though the CMD prompt. I just don't want the thing running and ripping my SSD up.

It is not about the Trim I was talking about, but to check if Auto Defrag for that drive was deactivated. If it was deactivated than it is replaced by forced Trim command.

Ok mate well I guess I am just an old fool who is a bit more pedantic / OCD than what is good for me.

I can't say I have made a very good start in here and should stick to the 7 forum really. Anyway it was a nice exercise and different for a change to get the 8 on as I had to do a fair bit of swapping, cleaning, formatting and cloning of drives and as a hardware plodder it was good to get my hands dirty so to speak.
