Solved How can I remove Videos from Libraries in navigation pane

EDIT: Create a restore point, there may be some minor repercussions.

1. Delete the Videos Folder under C:\Users\YourUserName
2. Download the attachement and double click to merge the registry
3. Sign out and sign back in

Hi topgundcp, I have done that but as mentioned in my post #8 Video re-appears as soon as it is deleted and restores it back in the navigation pane also. This never happened in my previous Windows installation.

Did you also delete the Videos folder under C:\Users\UserName
FYI, I did try before I made the screenshot and it worked perfectly.

Hello Edwin, Thank you for your suggestion which I have tried but without success...Video will not be removed from the Libraries right hand pane.

Hi topgun dcp, I had not deleted Video from C:\Users but I have now but it has made no difference...As soon as I delete Video from the Libraries right hand pane it immediately re-appears and shows up again in the navigation pane...it also does not remove Video from Folders.

Unfortunately, that would only remove the "Videos" folder from the "This PC" window. This is just a shortcut of the "C:\Users\(user-name)\Videos" folder instead of the Videos library.

As a test (if you like), create a new user account, sign in to it, and see if you are able to right click on the Videos library and delete it for good.

The Videos folder under "C:\Users\(user-name)" and the Videos folder under Videos Library are the same folder.
Right Click on videos folder->Properties, you'll will find that it is pointing to "C\Users\(User-name)

The Videos, Pictures, and Music folders won't stay deleted. Programs that try to access them can request they be created if they don't exist, and a variety of programs do this. I don't use Windows Libraries, nor do I use these folders, but I do like to remove them from my user folder. To accomplish this, I create a folder named "Clutter" in my user folder, and I move these unwanted folders into it. I also move Contacts, Favorites, Links, Saved Games, and Searches into Clutter. Then I hide Clutter. This is more efficient than hiding these folders individually, and there's a functional reason to do it this way. As I found out, the Links folder holds the File Explorer Favorites, and if you hide Links, File Explorer will no longer display Favorites. However, it's OK for Links to live inside a hidden folder, and hiding Clutter gets rid of the clutter without any side effects AFAICT.

I would rather not try creating another Microsoft user account as I had a lot of problems getting Microsoft to accept the one I have now...it really was a pain.
I am beginning to think I may have some corruption in my system as I know what you and topgundcp have told me should have worked and it has worked for me in the past.
I think I will have to learn to live with it until I do another install of Windows.

I am truly grateful for all the effort you and topgundcp have put in trying to sort this out for me....Thank you.

If programs try to access/re-create them then this is a different story but I would think there's options in those programs to allow you to re-direct the output where you want to save.

Since as I said, I don't use the Windows folders or libraries, I of course employ those options in programs like iTunes, Picasa, XBMC, etc. The folders still get regularly recreated despite removing all folders from all Windows Libraries. I don't know which programs are responsible for doing this, but it's something I've observed consistently for years. These folders simply will not stay deleted for the long term, and this was true in Windows 7 as well as 8.

Hi topgundcp, I have just run the reg file from Brinks tutorial again and re-booted my PC but Video was still showing in Libraries navigation pane and the right hand pane...however when I tried to see if I could delete Video in the navigation pane it actually worked this time and removed Video from Libraries and has stayed deleted after a re-boot.

I am very happy...Thanks for all your help and Brink too.
