Homegroup sharing problem

I can set to share printers and documents to share but when I recheck they are both turned off. Any attempt to set them on in "Setting, Network, Homegroup" just cycles forever. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Turn off Homegroup and use regular Network Sharing.

I am not close to trying to establish a connection to other computers. I cannot get my Win 8.1 system to retain settings where I chose to share printers and documents. When I set sharing of printers and documents it list the items as shared but when I close the window and open it again, they are not shared. If I could get the system to retain the settings, I can then look to connections.

Did you not see my post above yours with the links the homegroup tutorials? Perhaps you're not saving your settings?

I tried everything and nothing worked. Got a message that some files were missing and to use my installation disk to add them. Didn't like my installation disk. Made a backup of my data and reinstalled Windows. I am in the process of reinstalling all my software and don't have any problems yet.
