Solved Homegroup icon on desktop

After the latest security update of Windows 8.1 a Homegroup icon suddenly appeared on my desktop. Never had it before and it won't let me delete it.
How do I get rid of it?

Usually refreshing (F5) the desktop will remove it in this situation. If not, then the suggestions in the yellow tip box at the top of the tutorial below may.

Amazing. F5 did get rid of it.
Weird. Wonder why it appeared.

Great news.

It seems to be glitch that causes the Homegroup desktop icon to just appear like that. It usually happens when anything messes with the network, but it hasn't been narrowed down to anything specific that I'm aware of so far.
