Why does Windows 8 continually keep putting this Homegroup icon on my desktop with no way to remove it? What if I am not interested in the Homegroup?

First of all, its annoying. And secondly I don't understand what their motive is in constantly trying to force you to have it?

Remove The Homegroup Icon/Network Icon
1. Go to Control Panel
2. Select "Appearance and Personalization"
3. Click "Personalization"
4. On the upper left click on "Change Desktop icon"
5. Untick the network icon
6. Hit apply then ok
7. If the Network icon is untick, tick it, then untick
8. Hit apply then ok
9. You're Done!
