Solved Hide ubuntu partition in Windows 8

I just recently installed Ubuntu 13.04 in my new msi laptop. My goal is to hide Windows 8 partition in ubuntu and vice versa.

In ubuntu, I disabled auto mount so it is working as desired.
In windows 8 disk manager, I cannot seem to find a way to hide the ubuntu partitions.

My goal is to keep windows and ubuntu partions (in windows drives) to see each other to protect the parition from accidental damage.

Is there a way to this in windows 8 home edition?

I hope somebody here have more success than me.

Thanks in advance

Hide partitions in windows by removing the assigned drive letter in the Disk Management Console.

How do I hide specific drives/partitions in Windows 7? - Windows 7 Help Forums

It is similar in Windows 8 - the link in post #3 points to Shawn Brinks tutorial:

Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Even more protection is offered if the formatted filesystem for the Ubuntu installation is unreadable by Windows - such as ext3.
Hi fafhrd... will removing the drive letter anyhow modify my ubuntu OS?
I mean, the links you provided were for windows 8 and 7 dual boot.
I am afraid that once I remove the drive letters, my Ubuntu will not bootup anymore.

Drive letters only exist in Windows - as references in the Registry for Windows purposes - they are a throwback to DOS and are kept for compatibility.

Ubuntu uses references to the drives and partitions directly such as sda0 and sdb0 where sd references a "SCSI" disk "a" partition "0" and a second "SCSI" disk "b" partition "0"

I am assuming you created a partition in Windows then installed Ubuntu on it.

Ubuntu is unaffected by Windows drive letters if it uses the Linux grub bootloader. Even the Windows bootloader is not reliant on drive letters now, it uses guids, I believe.

If there are problems to do with Windows bootloader, it should be relatively simple to restore the drive letter either with Windows Disk manager or diskpart.
